North American Asian Elephant Population 2021

It is well. I wish her to recover as soon as possible. Fewer calves have died of EEHV in recent years than before. Almost every time the virus is detected in time, the calf survives.

I still remember when the virus struck at Rosamond Griffon Zoo and their 2 young elephant calves both died of the virus. That wasn’t all that long ago so honestly, I’m not holding breath until we know for certain this young elephant is out of the woods

This may be a off topic considering Kairavi has EEHV, but the Oregon zoo could had easily the largest herd of all related individuals if only they hadn't sent their young females away to circuses and did not do incestuous matings between brother and sister and father with daughter. As the US did have two breeding bulls at the time of when Thonglaw's daughters were producing calves those being Hugo born in 1960 (Note he is two years older then Pachy) and Vance born in 1963 but since Vance was producing calves at Roman Schmitt's Bush gardens I think the most likely candidate could have been could have been Hugo but another option could have been a bull from Europe either Mothi or Siam, which could have been a win-win for both North America and Europe as Pachy could have mated with the daughters of either of those bulls. And since most of the females born in the 60s had calves in 90s with the most recent example being Me-Tus twins the oregon zoo could have had a large number of young breeding cows

Yea, it's really unfortunate all those breeding aged cows did not have the oppurtunity to breed. Of Thonglaw's few living descendants Rose-tu is the only one that is currently able to breed. And that's why I'm really hopeful that she's pregnant and that they will send her son Samudra to breed somewhere else soon.

I was more than impressed with this herd when I saw them back in 1997, what ever they are doing right others should follow.
And if these three calves are indeed female calves flash forward 10 years you have Lilly, Natasha, Opal, Emily, Nellie, Hannah, Gigi, Anna May, Luna, Sunita, Imke and hopefully three more cows having calves they are set to have the largest herd of Asian Elephants outside of Asia

Sorry I’m not usually active on the elephant forums but does anyone know if African lion Safari is getting a new breeding bull soon, as Johnson’s daughters are nearing breeding age?

Supposedly their planning to get a bull from Europe most likely one of magnificent Radza's sons

That would be no surprise at all, Considering its in a cold region like Canada is even more amazing. I saw the old barn inside and out, It was nothing special, I was told at that time they were planning a new much larger barn to house up to 15 elephants which has now been built. I believe having multiple bulls on site was one factor in their Success.

Indeed

Just my own view but I believe with keeping species like elephants its all in or not in at all, Auckland zoos as a case in point, having a foot half in the door really is not the better option.
It is all or nothing as you need to dedicate time, sweat and tears to make sure that your animals are thriving especially in a multi generational herd. Regarding Auckland's elephants the moves are sound Anjelee needs to breed asap, while Burma needs to socialize with other elephants.

Would you know their ages or any info on them at all. Thanks :)
yes I know a great deal about their age and info Einga-Tha is a 11 years old his parents are Radza and the late cow Htoo Kin Aye, Ein She Min Nayone is 12 years old his parents are Radza of course and Ma Yay Yee (Fun fact Ma yay Yee is the half bother of Einga-Tha they share the same mother) and Ananda Yinghtway is 13 and his parents are Radza and Htoo Yin Aye not to be confused with Htoo Kin Aye (Despite their name means the same thing)

I agree 100%. The amount of work, time and effort put into the Rockton herd over the years is paying off at this time, I would not be surprised if they because one of the largest holders and producers in the zoo world in time!

Thank you. I hope they carry the Razda large tusk gene for future generations.

Your very welcome and I also strongly believe that Radza's sons will carry on this large tusk gene and dont forget about the Motek x Warda line they are tall leggy elephants with spectacular tusks Teddy at only 27 has long tusks that cross one another
