Batu Secret Zoo Batu Secret Zoo news

Some interesting species, it seems like Predator Fun Park (A crocodile park owned by JTP) own a large Philippine crocodile (Crocodylus mindorensis). There aren't much information of this individual, the JTP website only post about its "fun facts". It could be just some large saltwater crocodile, but who know.

Seram! Buaya 'Impor' Filipina di Predator Fun Park Ini Macho Banget –
It would be interesting to learn how they acquired the specimen. There is a fleeting reference in Bahasa to Mindanao (FYI: there is Mindanao Philippine and Luzon Philippine crocs - the latter being the ultra rare one -).

They have an impressive collection: Sunda gharial, Irian Jaya croc (not the C. halli I presume), salties croc and S.American caiman crocodile.

They only need to add American alligator or Chinese alligator to their collection though

Several animals have recently born, a twin white-lipped tamarins, a twin red-handed tamarins, and four Asian small-clawed otters. The otters, including their parents, lived alongside an Bornean sun bear for quite a while and actually ended up well. Not sure how that could happen, but the vet during that Live said that the otters "scares" the bear.

The giant anteater exhibit is under renovation, which would include an indoor area for the anteater that could be viewed through a glass. Batu Secret Zoo planned to finally acquired an mate for Charlitto, the male anteater. Not sure where she will be acquired from, possibly from Singapore, where Charlitto came from.

Batu Secret Zoo also constructing a new exhibit, which is a merge of the the former siamang exhibit and false gharial pond, for the zoo's new animal, the proboscis monkey. The exhibit have three viewing area, of course in the elevated path, a brand new glassed viewing area, and underwater viewing area. The siamang might be moved to the River Adventure, while the lone false gharial is going to be moved to the Predator Fun Park. The fish in the pond were also said to be removed, which is not bad (Since they were large aggresive fish like alligator gar, giant pangasius, and South American catfish), but should be replaced with other fish since the underwater view would look blant. I would choose fishes native to Borneo like tinfoil barbs, clown loaches, and Asian arowanas, just like Singapore Zoo's proboscis monkey exhibit. The proboscis monkeys will directly came from Kalimantan.

It seams to be not noticed by others that Secret Zoo welcomed it's very first baby of Colobus Monkey/Mantled Guereza. It's most probably the first breeding of this species in Indonesia.
Baby is healthy female and she was born on 7/7/2021. Parents arrived from zoos in Poland and France.

I see, not sure why they mentioned Kalimantan in that Live.

Aw man I'm gonna miss the underwater view for the false gharial with those large predatory fishes. It sucks that it's gonna be revamped into an exhibit for proboscis monkeys, knowing that they're gonna be phased out since they can't be mixed with the monkeys. Also, underwater viewing in crocodile exhibits in Indonesian zoos is a rarity, and Lembang Zoo & Park screwed their crocodile exhibit by lowering the water in front of the glass panel that was intended to be an underwater viewing area.

As for the fish yes, I'd like to see a couple of arowanas in the underwater area, maybe throw in a couple of turtles to make it less boring, like Orlitia borneensis or painted terrapin. Large Indonesian cyprinids like hampalas and mahseers and other docile Indonesian freshwater fishes like Datnioides and knifefish could be good candidates for the replacements. Some schooling fishes like tinfoil barbs will do too!

False gharials will back to this exhibit. But it will be young crocs - 120 -130cm of total length.

One of zoo keeper told me that this month several animals will be shipped to Philippines, Singapore and Dubai. He mentioned hippos, tigers among others.
In my opinion it is good that Batu wants to reduce number of tigers but why hippos.?
Wondering what zoo in Philippines will receive hippos from Batu.

I have heard that zoo will receive next week:
- female of Snow Leopard
- female of Giant Otter to join lonely Chico
- female of Giant Anteater.
Animals will arrived from zoos in Europe as Batu Zoo taking part in European breeding programs for this species.

Great! Do they still keep Sam Leo?
