It’s nice to see a number of the smaller zoos and wildlife parks take out awards and I can say from a personal/visitor’s perspective that Auckland Zoo’s exhibit award for Phase 1 or the South East Asia Jungle Track was thoroughly deserved.

Two awards I’d like to see included:

Import Initiative Award - to the zoo that has demonstrated initiative in revitalising a stagnated population with fresh imports; or has taken the lead in founding a new breeding programme within the region e.g. Sri Lankan leopard.

Concept Award - to the zoo which has demonstrated foresight in the planning/design and layout of their zoo e.g. a zoo that plans a series of exhibits that showcase a geographic area or ecosystem. Similar to the Exhibit Award, but focussed on the bigger picture.
