-- seems like the poor girl deserves her rest.Keepers noticed a few days ago that the 61-year-old Cora was acting more lethargic, her appetite had dwindled, and she was getting more and more uncomfortable. Bloodwork revealed her condition was getting worse. One of the tests was five times higher than normal.
The bloodwork tells us that there is tissue destruction going on in her body, possibly cardiac failure,” Wiley said.
Early last year, a mass on her reproductive tract was found. They couldn’t operate on it at the time because of her age and since that time have focused on supporting her body to alleviate some of the pain.

Awesome news, thank you for sharing! The old girl still has fight in her Cora the elephant doing better after treatment at Topeka Zoo
Your very welcome, and yes not only for for her keepers but also for her long time herd sister Tembo and my first exposure to an elephant when I was a little kid had to be Affie from BrookfieldAwesome news, thank you for sharing! As long as her quality of life is reasonably intact, I know the keepers must be grateful for every additional day with her when the end seems to have been looming for so long. She's truly an awesome animal, and I honestly believe she may have been one of my very first exposures to elephants as a child through her role as Charlotte.
Has anyone heard anything about Kai at the okc zoo? I checked the social media and nothing but they have been promoting the EEHV research.
she’s recovering now. She’s beaten the virus and is no longer at risk of dying from it
Are there any due before the end of 2021?Speaking of pregnancies. I was speaking with a friend of mine recently, and I learned of quite a few pregnancies within the community. Most are still in their early stages (under a year) so we should began to start seeing announcements in the coming months as along as all goes well with each.
Excellent news, my guesses would be Rose Tu, Mali, Rozana, Rani, and Shanti with a small possibility of Rudy, Maliha, Jade, and SunnySpeaking of pregnancies. Of the ones, I was made aware of, no. However, we could see announcements as we were deeming them "Covid Pregnancies" because most were conceived while most zoos were shut down late last year into early this year. Are there any due before the end of 2021?
I will obviously not go too far into which out of privacy for each facility. However, it's pretty safe to say Rani is not pregnant seeing as the keepers at Smithsonian yesterday said she was/is currently cycling.Excellent news, my guesses would be Rose Tu, Mali, Rozana, Rani, and Shanti with a small possibility of Rudy, Maliha, Jade, and Sunny
I think @Javier Iniguez is talking about the Rani at St. Louis not the Maharani at Smithsonian lol.I will obviously not go too far into which out of privacy for each facility.
