In my visit, a keeper told me the institution plans to build new exhibits for the baboons, but the chimpanzees and penguins are not likely to return.

why not? they could bring new chimpanzees and penguins.

Their chimpanzees were sent to SRC and CRTB zoos. They no longer want to deal with chimps. According to the keeper, it's not in their plans to keep them. I heard they have plans to enlarge the orangutan/macaque exhibit though.
About the penguins, I was told they no longer plan to keep marine animals of any kind.

oh, that's so sad, we are going to miss the chimps and penguins, and i bet the visitors will get upset in knowing that bioparque will does not have chimps and penguins anymore

I was particularly excited for the new fur seal and penguin exhibits they presented in the original project. Too bad they will no longer be part of the institution...

me too, i was so excited to see the penguins swimming.

Looks like the pelicans are exposed now, i have no idea where are the otters now, but the visitors will love the new animals at the zoo

That's nice. This exhibit is pretty fine for the pelicans IMO. Considerable swimming water and also a good land space. Hope the otters get a nice new space in the future too...

Gaurs are kept in zoos in México and have bred at Africam Safari Puebla and the Mérida, Yucatán zoos, so that May be the source for the Río zoo. Also white tigers are very common in Mexican zoos, 3 years ago The Havana zoos received white tigers from Mexican zoos, so again mexican zoos maybe a source for the Rio zoo

AZA does not recommend keeping white tiger,since they have no conservation value, and there seems to be a Surplus of them in Latin American collections. The only AZA zoo that breeds gaur is the Bronx zoo and it is not likely that they would send any to Riozoo which is not AZA accredited

yeah that's true or the bioparque might get gaurs from india.

I tend to think this image was made before they were sent to the present exhibit. Maybe they passed the quarantine period in the former penguin enclosure.

that could be just like the aoudads, cassowary, sambar deer and blackbucks are passing the quarantine in african savanna, because they are not from africa, i know the aoudad is african but it lives in mountains not in plains.

Exactly, that's what I previously said in this thread. I just hope that the institution develops decent education programs with the tigers once conservation cannot be executed with them.
