Chapultepec Zoo Chapultepec Zoo news

Does anyone have any information about the snow leopard that arrived in 2014? Where did he come from and what has become of him (assuming it is a male)? Many thanks for any info.

The male snow leopard is quite well and is quite popular. He has a nice exhibit and is easy to see in the mornings. Sadly, Chapultepec zoo has not found him a mate.

Estimado David, yes it seems that the zoo will send some axolotl to Parque Ecológico Xochimilco, which is a protected area, but not very large. Another problem is the quality of the water in lake Xochimilco because of sewage runoff during the rainy season in México City.

The clean up of both big lakes around Mexico D.C. is a real State Agency imperative both for Wildlife and People.

Were in the zoo are the volcano rabbits kept? I might visit the zoo this weekend.

You won’t regret it, it’s one of my favourites!

I really liked the zoo! It was more beautiful than I expected. Mostly very nice enclosures, great collection.

I visited on a sunday, so no entrance fee (expect for the herpetario and insectario), but that also meant it was very, very crowded at some parts of the zoo.

I was able to add several new (sub)species to my mammal list (volcano rabbit, red brocket deer, Mexican black howler, Mexican prairie dog, Mexican wolf).

Unfortunately, about half of the bird section was closed (Montezuma aviary and aviaries with the birds of prey). However, I had some luck, as the first aviary after the road block was that of the Californian condors and one was sitting high in the aviary. So I got a distant view of it and could add the Californian condor to my zoo list of birds of prey!
