Hi Ralph,
looking at former posts in this thread, @vogelcommando mentioned that the zoo is the only holder of Side-striped jackal in Europe. Did you see this species during your visit ? Or did you manage to find out more info about this species ? By the way - is the zoo accessible with the public transport ( I plan a short visit during my trip inJuly - hope everything goes well:rolleyes: ).

They are listed on ZooTierListe and currently behind the scenes.
 
I don't think the striped jackals are officially part of Zie-Zoo's collection, they might better be considered to be part of the private collection of the owner of the park. I'm also not sure if the jackals are kept on-site, they might be kept elsewhere entirely.

No one knows if the jackals will ever be put on public display. All we can do is hope.

According to the 'Vrienden van Zie-Zoo' group on Facebook they are kept at the owners house currently from what I understood, but are planned to be part of the zoo's collection later on. (mostly the zoo needs to create a new enclosure for them)
 
Violet turaco and white-browed coucal are now on show. The latter can be found in the hyrax enclosure.
 
Giant anteater now has access to the former tapir/capybara enclosure.

The panther and spurred tortoises - which were MIA on my last visit - will now be housed in the former anteater enclosure.

Trumpeter hornbills were added to the Wetlands Aviary.

Yes, they've been gone for quite a while. They were too destructive. They ate and tramped all the grass, transforming a once-green paddock into a sandy one. Now the grass has been replanted and the enclosure looks lush again, but at a cost (I do miss both species).
 
I had a nice visit to Zie-ZOO today. It was very quiet and I saw most species on show, including two viscachas (it was also signed in another enclosure) and a very active Siberian weasel.

Small news:
- Two Rocky Mountain goats on show again (the zoo only had one for a long time)
- The Darwin's rheas have moved to the former tapir paddock, there are now three alpaca's in their enclosure (and still another three in the old alpaca paddock...)
- The zoo has now two giant anteaters on show: one on the big (former tapir) paddock and one on a smaller side-paddock (about half of the former anteater enclosure, the other half is occupied by spurred tortoises)
- There are also spurred tortoises on the dikdik paddock
- Grey-headed swamphen was still signed in the entrace aviary but I only saw them in the red-crowned crane aviary. The turacos seem to have moved back to the hyrax enclosure.
- Most of the coati's are in a separate enclosure now.
- The reptile attic was open again. The former caiman lizard tank now has two elephant shrews, with a third individual in the old elephant shrew tank.
- I saw juveniles of the turtle doves, white storks, banded mongooses, prairie dogs, patagonian cavy and corsac foxes. I didn't see the young dikdik.

I saw at least three individuals today, in the chacoan mara enclosure.

I believe there are currently no African wild dogs present at the zoo at all, either on show or behind the scenes, unless something has changed recently.
 
Are there any (semi-) regulars that could help me?

I'm making guides for aviaries and mixed enclosures in zoos in the Netherlands (Dutch zoo guides)

I want to make one for Zie-zoo and need some help with some of the aviaries. As well as some of the locations of enclosures (the hyrax enclosure, for example)

I already have some of the enclosures because of ZTL and a ZC user, but I still don't know a lot
 
That's a shame indeed. African wild dogs are not only more interesting (to me), but they also need more representation, as they're more endangered than lions

I understand your disapproval, just remember that the breeding program and studbook keeper do decide a lot on that front. I seem to remember that new building and renovation plans did play a part though too.
