Visited the zoo yesterday and was told that the old Pudu enclosure that used to be home to Servals and Cheetahs before it became home to Pudus is been redevolped to house 2 males in 2 weeks time,2 male what i don`t know have gone through ISIS nothing is showing for any small cats but that could just be that Chesters not updated yet. Before any of you think i know what is going in I DON`T all i was told is its 2 Males, any ideas?

Sorry no but from what i could see it looked like they had re-done the over hang of the fence and they had marked out an area towards the Kangaroos for what could be a pond?Apart from that nothing different that i could see.

Interesting they have redone the overhang, suggest maybe a small cat. I'll have to check it out on my next visit.

could there be female cheetahs coming in to the collection?

There will be, but the new enclosure has room for more than the four they currently hold. Plus the enclosure is def not suited for cheetah's even when they were housed there before.

What happened to the Pudu? Sorry if it's old news, whatever happened to them.

Hopefully it will be a species of small cat. I'd like to see Chester house something like Fishing cat or Asian Golden Cat.

Damn! I wish i had seen this thread before I went to the zoo today.

I didn't manage to get over to the corner with the Pudu enclosure, so haven't been able to see the changes.

No its not female Cheetahs as i was told it was 2 MALES of whatever it is they are putting in there.

I took Kiang's post to mean that 2 male cheetahs could be moved into the pudu enclosure to make room for 2 new females in the new cheetah area. I also agree that this enclosure was never ideal for cheetahs especially compared to the new pens.

Have the Pudu left the collection?

What else could it be other than a small cat? I guess the overhang suggests something small and agile, probably a small carnivore...if not a cat, then a fox or mustelid or something like? To me, cat seems the most likely, I'd go Rusty Spotted Cat if I were putting money on a new species for Chester, but that'd be a big exhibit for them.
If a pond is going in, maybe fishing cat would be a good guess?

Just a random guess... but Babirusa perhaps? (moving them back on-show)

They wouldn't need the over hang thou? But am liking that thinking.

Never going to happen but I love to see Asian Golden cats at chester, but propably to rare to get hold off. Fishing cat seems a good guess with the pond going in.

The Babirusa are supposed to be going on the site of the old aviary along side the Old Orang House or at least thats what i been told by a few people. As for the pond a did say it looked what could be a pond, who knows for once not me but at least the clock is ticking down and we have 2 days less until we find out.HOPEFULLY!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Pudu,

Last time I was there I saw a single animal in the pen opposite (where the bush dogs were until recently (the bush dogs are now back in their original exhibit behind the kangaroos (that's enough brackets))...er...).

Could be a dog. Colchester and Hamerton both have a surplus of male black-backed jackals.
