Sad to possibly be saying goodbye to such an iconic animal soon :(

This statement was made over two years ago:
Keepers noticed a few days ago that the 61-year-old Cora was acting more lethargic, her appetite had dwindled, and she was getting more and more uncomfortable. Bloodwork revealed her condition was getting worse. One of the tests was five times higher than normal.

The bloodwork tells us that there is tissue destruction going on in her body, possibly cardiac failure,” Wiley said.

Early last year, a mass on her reproductive tract was found. They couldn’t operate on it at the time because of her age and since that time have focused on supporting her body to alleviate some of the pain.
-- seems like the poor girl deserves her rest.

Awesome news, thank you for sharing! :D As long as her quality of life is reasonably intact, I know the keepers must be grateful for every additional day with her when the end seems to have been looming for so long. She's truly an awesome animal, and I honestly believe she may have been one of my very first exposures to elephants as a child through her role as Charlotte.

Your very welcome, and yes not only for for her keepers but also for her long time herd sister Tembo and my first exposure to an elephant when I was a little kid had to be Affie from Brookfield

Update on the elephant fighting EEHV at the Oklahoma City Zoo.

In posts on the zoos Facebook page, female Kairavi, the elephant expert vets and elephant care teams have been treating round the clock expect she will recover! This was some much needed good news! She tested positive for the virus 2 weeks ago and they’ve been aggressively treating and giving her medications to fight the virus but fortunately she now is starting to fight it off on her own! She also isn’t lethargic anymore and is now herself again!

The news was bittersweet as I think her sister or half sister (correct me if I’m wrong) died of EEHV before Kairavi was born in 2015. They caught it right in time this time and I couldn’t be more thankful.

I can conform that all of the calves born this year at the African lion safari are all female. I have seen multiple videos of the claves I have not seen the penis shaft that bulges out below the tail and curves forward nor the sheath. And their behavior is another indicator of what gender they are these calves are much more clam and less rambunctious then males

In honor of Asian Elephant Awareness Month, the Oklahoma City Zoo posted a tribute to Malee who lost her live to EEHV in 2015 and their commitment towards the fight against EEHV. In addition they posted another update on Kairavi.

Kairavi is now in the recovery phase as I’ve previously posted and has managed to win her fight against EEHV. I suspect she will be fully recovered by the end of the month

Has anyone heard anything about Kai at the okc zoo? I checked the social media and nothing but they have been promoting the EEHV research.

Speaking of pregnancies. I was speaking with a friend of mine recently, and I learned of quite a few pregnancies within the community. Most are still in their early stages (under a year) so we should began to start seeing announcements in the coming months as along as all goes well with each.
Are there any due before the end of 2021?

Excellent news, my guesses would be Rose Tu, Mali, Rozana, Rani, and Shanti with a small possibility of Rudy, Maliha, Jade, and Sunny

Of the ones, I was made aware of, no. However, we could see announcements as we were deeming them "Covid Pregnancies" because most were conceived while most zoos were shut down late last year into early this year.

I will obviously not go too far into which out of privacy for each facility. However, it's pretty safe to say Rani is not pregnant seeing as the keepers at Smithsonian yesterday said she was/is currently cycling.

I don’t know if anyone else has reported this already, but I’ve recently seen some pictures of Rose-tu at the Oregon zoo and she looks quite rotund, with semi-noticeable mammary glands (especially compared to Chendra and Shine). Is it a far-fetched idea that maybe Samson and Rose-tu successfully mated and there is a calf on the way?
