A tender for the construction of the brand new area focussed on French Guyana has been released and shows what we could expect. The area will be 26.000 m² (on the site of the actual european mouflons, eurasian elks and european wildcats enclosures) and the buidling works will be done in three times with openings from spring 2022 to spring 2024.
First phase (2022) :
- 650 m² enclosure for bush dogs,
- 2.000 m² enclosure for giant anteaters,
- 60 m² aviary for tamanduas,
- 1.500 m² walkthrough aviary for sloths, parrots, sakis and tamarins + a terrarium for reptile species.
Second phase (2023) :
- 60 m² enclosure for kinkajous or brazilian porcupines + a terrarium for boas or turtles,
- 2 x 1.200 m² netted enclosures (so 2.400 m² in total) for jaguars,
- 3 netted enclosures for a total of 700 m² for ocelots or margays,
- 1.500 m² for peccaries.
Third phase (2024) :
- 1.200 m² walkthrough aviary for iguanas, scarlet ibis and cuvier's dwarf caimans + an aquarium for red piranhas,
- 3.000 m² enclosure for lowland tapirs and capybaras.
All these species will be new for the zoo.
Other notable constructions will be : entrance building representing a Creole square, a tropical garden, a playground and an opal site.
Total cost expected : 2.100.000 euros
