Cincinnati Zoo Rebuild

After planning this for months I have decided to share it with others. This rebuild will focus on bringing back rarer species and reestablishing the zoos old and very diverse collection. If you would like to make any suggestions or make an idea work better feel free to share.

Vine Street Village & Parking Garage
With the Cincinnati Zoo becoming more and more popular, the crowds are growing bigger. More space is needed for parking. Across from the main parking lot, is another parking between the zoo and the Cincinnati VA hospital. This space will be renovated into a parking garage with another bridge going from it to the zoo. This is all planed in the zoo’s More Home to Roam campaign. After the new bride should be another set of ticket booths and another entrance to keep the main one from crowding up to much. At the end of the bridge, hidden behind some gardens is a small island will be with lots of plants and fake dead trees. The island would be a rotational exhibit for different Ambassador Animals.

Species List for the Small Rotational Island:
Linnaeus’s Two-Toed Sloth
Blue-&-Gold Macaw
Brazilian Porcupine
Scarlet Macaw
Southern Tamandua

Roo Valley
Roo Valley replaced a exhibit full of history and rarities. In order to remember the zoos Sumatran rhino program, under the Kanga' Kilmb a small conservation center will be built informing people about Sumatran rhinos and what is happening to them. Also some exhibits will be built in the center displaying animals from Indonesia

Sumatran Rhino Conservation Center
Maleo
Javan Mouse Deer
Sulwesi Bear Cuscus
Javan Blue-banded Kingfisher
Sulawesi Forest Turtle

I have decided to restart from the project as I have came up with better ideas. I will start with the elephant reserve.

Hippo River
This will be a two+ acre complex home to the Nile Hippopotamus. The old elephant house will be renovated and expand to hold hippos and the water filtration system from the old exhibit will be transferred here. There will be indoor viewing on the back side of the elephant house to see them The area will be divided into one large yard. The yard will have large land and water areas, underwater viewing as well as above ground, and grazing spaces for the hippos. Fiona, Bibi, and Tucker will be transferred here as well as Ramona from Disney’s Animal Kingdom. By making all of these changes that would able the Cincinnati Zoo to create one of the best hippo exhibits in the USA and it would allow them to stay up to date with the AZA guidelines. The elephants will be transferred to another part of the zoo

Grey = Expanded Indoor Area/Water Filtration Area
Green = Outdoor Yard

I like this idea! Also, why did you choose Ramona from DAK to join them? Is Ramona Bibi's mom because I know DAK's Henry is her father or did you just randomly choose her?

Thank you! Ramona is not Bibi’s mom but she is a surplus female so that’s why I chose here.
This is hands down the best thread I've seen for the rebuild of the Cincinnati Zoo
Thank you! You are too kind. :)

I have not decided which section to do next so instead you guys get to vote. The current vote is between Africa and Roo Valley.

Voting will end at 3pm USA Eastern Time.

Like this post if you vote for Roo Valley

At the Australian-themed Roo Valley, beneath a lush canopy of trees, Zoo guests experience and encounter two native Australian species like never before.”- Cincinnati Zoo

Like this post if you vote for Africa.

Transport yourself to an African Safari, right here in Cincinnati! Experience face-to-face encounters with meerkats where a pop up bubble allows your child (or the child in you) to get an up close view of these charismatic creatures. Also, visit the open-vista hoof stock exhibit with ostrich, lesser kudu, pink-backed pelican, and Rüppell’s and lappet-faced vultures, to name a few! Or check out lions, giraffes painted dogs and hippos on your visit. Come back week after week to get to know all the faces at the Zoo.” - Cincinnati Zoo

Africa has won with a total of three votes! I should post my changes to Africa over the next couple days. Sorry I will take me so long I am just very very busy at the moment.

Africa (Part 1)
Africa is probably the second best exhibit in the Cincinnati Zoo with some beautiful habitats. I will start the revamp with the beginning of the exhibit, the Giraffe Ridge. The zoo has an amazing breeding program for the Masai Giraffe with 17 calves that have been born. The zoo also had the first captive giraffe birth in the Western Hemisphere. The zoo’s current giraffe barn is the second smallest in the AZA which is saying something considering the giraffes have to spend some parts of the year in here. There is a wooded area behind giraffe house, between the elephant house and the Education Building. All of the trees in this area will be dug up and sent to other parts of the zoo. This area will become the expanded giraffe barn. This expansion would triple the size of the barn. A small side yard would also be added. With an expanded barn, the zoo can house more giraffes. 1.0 Buttercup will be transferred from the Oregon Zoo to the Cincinnati Zoo to breed with the zoo’s three females. In return, Fennessy and Theo will be transferred to the Oregon Zoo.

The zoos flamingo group currently located in the Rhino Reserve should be spit up. Half will be moved to the flamingo exhibit in Africa and the other half will be sent to another zoo.

Donni and Redd the cheetahs will be sent out to Mast Farm. Now with more space opened up at the Cheetah Show the zoo will import 1.0 Kuso the Clouded Leopard from the Nashville Zoo as well as a new Fishing Cat.

(Part two will be coming soon)

Africa (Part 2)
The African Savanna is the centerpiece of Africa. The exhibit will stay the same but the animals will change. Here is the brand new species list for the African Savanna:
  • 1.4 Nubian Soemmerring’s Gazelle
  • 1.2 Southern Gerenuk
  • 1.2 Bontebuck
  • 2.0 White-Bearded Wildebeest
  • 0.2 Common Ostrich
  • 12.0 Kenyan Crested Guineafowl
  • 0.1 Saddlebill Stork
  • 4.0 Pink-Backed Pelican
  • 2.2 Ruppell’s Griffon Vulture
  • 5.0 Grey Crowned Crane
Next up is the Painted Dog Valley. The only change I will make is all of the gravel in the exhibit will be replaced by grass.

Now that the hippos have left their old habitat, some renovations will be made. The old hippo playground will be turned into a new exhibit for Aardwolves. They will be moved here from Night Hunters. Across from them where the old hippo exhibit used to be, a new exhibit will be built. The area will be a large grassy and rocky hill home to Gelada and Nubian Ibex.

Now that Africa is finished it is time for another vote. Should I do the Children’s Zoo and surrounding area or the Wing’s of the World?
