While I'd agree that the public don't know that they are interested in seeing antelope - herds of ungulates do not draw the public as gorillas or elephants do - once a mjor zoo stops exhibiting such animals, the public WILL notice their absence. They may not know thier addax from their eland, but they apprecaite seeing 'stuff'.
Interesting that Newquay Zoo (UK) is currently constructing an exhibit for wildebeest, nyala, zebra, waterbick, lechwe and warthog. Not sure if all of these will be mixed together - quite an ambitious undertaking if so.
