Indeed there were American alligators that were acquired in the mid 1940s, shortly after the Second World War.
They were sent to Thrigby Hall in 1991 after living in London Zoo for about forty-five years.

Anyone know what happened to the anaconda?
If I remember rightly, the anaconda was moved to another zoo but can’t remember which one. Sorry
A skull of George the alligator should be in the reptile discovery area. I remember several crocodilians, including a gharial, being kept in the large enclosure where the alligators must have been.
Possibly still there?!
I've not visited Thrigby for sometime but an ex-London Zoo female alligator was still there, alive and well, a few years ago at more than seventy years old.
It would be nice if somebody could confirm whether it still is there.

ZSL and thus UK zoos in general are now officially void of inland taipans.
As of today, their pair has found a new home at WdG in Salzburg, Austria. Which makes Austria, at least according to ZTL, the European country with the most Inland taipans in zoos. Apparently, there might be more to the common (American) mistake of confusing Austria and Australia with one another... ^^

So... any picture updates on the construction? I'm only getting more and more curious about the layout and setup with the snippets I have seen on YouTube...
Haven’t seen any updates but the construction is taking shape, however think opening date will be early 2023.
If you look at London Zoo website and click on animals, there is some background info regarding what to expect in new reptile house.
