Welcome to all of you who joined over the summer, and thanks to all of you who have been dutifully updating your lists! We are now up to
22 participants (including 3 from Canada), by far a record number for ZCCNA. A couple other stats: everyone has collectively recorded
93 species from
104 facilities across the continent.
I will post an updated ranking shortly, but a couple pieces of business to take care of first:
1. While I'm happy to see people have been joining mid-year as the competition attracts more attention, it has got me thinking that we should have a cut-off deadline for new participants. Hopefully we're all on the same page about this just being a friendly, casual game - but it is a game and there is a winner, so I want to be fair and give people time to improve their standing rather than see them despondent or irritated at late entries bumping them down the list.
With that in mind,
the deadline for new participants to join this year's challenge is October 1st. This deadline will have no effect on those who have already joined.
I'm also considering a deadline for updating your lists with anything other than current entries so that people aren't dumping their year's tally at the end, but that won't be for at least another couple months so no worries yet. I'll update you all on that when I make a decision.
2. As far as things stand right now, there will be another edition of ZCCNA next year and I will continue in my capacity as game moderator. Though we're still months out from that, I've decided to open myself up to suggestions on what next year's challenge should be. If you have an idea, shoot me a PM and I'll start making a list of challenge ideas to consider. Try to keep it to just your top one or two ideas so I'm not inundated with every conceivable possibility

mainly I want to see what people are interested in and whether there is high demand for a specific challenge idea. We may even hold a vote...
