I did a bit of digging in the old international giraffe studbook.

What follows is a short history on the Mysuru Zoo giraffe from humble beginnings to what seems like a nice breeding herd. Their breeding pair was a Rothschild's male giraffe (captive-born 1987 at Koen Zoo) x a hybrid/generic female (captive-born 1987 in Hamburg). All their offspring born (3.0 in 1996, 1999 and 2001) are consequently hybrid/crossbreeds. They acquired a generic female giraffe from Lucknow (individuals of unknown lineages both captive-born at Kolkata Zoo 2000/2001).

We can safely say that the offspring now at Singapore are a happy-go-lucky hybrid/crossbreeds mix. For reinstating a true conservation breeding program (incidentally Singapore once was held purebred Southern giraffe giraffa, before they acquired a Rothschild's bull from Europe ...) the zoo is a million miles of course.
 
I've heard that WRS received some very nice avian species recently. New to WRS: Madagascar crested ibis, Madgascar blue pigeon, crested coua and chestnut-eared aracari. New breeding stock: king bird of paradise and yellow-breasted fruit dove.

The birds are all at the Zoo's back of house areas for now. I think the Madagascan species might go to the new Rainforest Park (opening 2024) rather than the new Bird Park.

It seems all these birds have been moved to Jurong (they were only at the Zoo for quarantine). So there's a chance they might go on display before Jurong closes sometime next year.
 
1. Since the desert warthogs seem to be dead or moved elsewhere, what is gonna take over their old enclosure where the red river hogs once were? (the rock habitat by the pygmy hippos)
2. Are there still other animals living with the zebras like the ostriches and the one black wildebeest?
3. There's a picture of watusis in one of the enclosures, I remember at one point they were in night Safari so have they moved to the day zoo? which enclosures are they in if they've moved to the day zoo?

The warthogs had died out. The enclosure next to the pygmy hippos has been vacant since the red river hogs moved out, but is now being refurbished. It's not confirmed but i think the red river hogs will move back there and their current Wild Africa exhibit will be redeveloped.

A pair of ostriches lives with the Grevy's zebras. The white-tailed gnu died some years ago.

The ankole were put on temporary display at the Zoo earlier this year in celebration of the Chinese New Year (Year of the Ox). They are now off show.
 
Not really news, but does anyone know how many proboscis monkeys the Singapore Zoo has at the moment?

That is news to me. Their last purebred Rothschild's was a male from the EEP. He is long gone now. And they had Southern giraffe for a good number of years before deciding on mixing up things.
