Mustelids in North America

Safari Zoological Park in KS is a new listing for tayra. They possibly have zorilla, but I haven't seen photo evidence of that.

I also should note that Saharan striped polecat/weasel are popping up in the pet trade, so could appear at zoos at some point in the next few years, likely small, roadside type places.

The split is in the northwest, so basically erminea is an Old World species which just comes into the New World in the Alaska area and then richardsonii is the main North American species. So it would be most likely for any in North American zoos to be the latter, unless it was an Alaskan zoo in which case the former would be more likely.

Yeah, I read about it after putting the posts together last night, really interesting! I'd missed the Pacific Marten split, too; that one looks a bit more widespread, so some martens in the USA might be that species.

I can confirm Ochsner Park keeps river otter.

Timbavati may still keep grison, MacKensie Center probably still keeps river otter.

Thanks for confirming Ochsner Park, and for Wildwood's loss of fisher. Timbavati's inspection in August didn't have grison, and Mackenzie's in March didn't have otters.

I believe they have at least one retired BFF on display because even with having released ferrets, they are extremely difficult to see.

I also went in July. I asked a zoo employee if they keep them and they had no idea what I was even talking about so I assume its gone? Who knows though, they're all teenage volunteers. If its still there its most definitely not on exhibit and probably won't be for the forseeable future.
