Are there labels for what's going where? And what is the definitive species list?
It’s hard to tell as it was not labelled. The exhibit attached to the left building (cafe and event hall) and the large exhibit in the middle of the trail are for tigers (Malayan or Sumatran). The bottom 3 exhibits are not known exactly but the candidates for those spaces are Visayan warty pig, vulture, wrinkled hornbill, crane, and red panda. I’d imagine the 2 exhibits on the right are for the bird species. Looking at the right side of the complex the building is going to be an indoor display area, with the indoor exhibits for Komodo dragon and gibbon, as well as small exhibits likely for reptiles and amphibians. Just north of this building is the outdoor exhibits for Chinese alligator and Komodo dragon. And just south of the building is the mixed exhibit for gibbon and small clawed otter.
I recently began my new seasonal job as a guest educator at the zoo and here are some changes I've noticed.
In the Desert
In the Aviary
- the Komodo Dragons are no longer in the first exhibit to the right, being replaced by Gila monsters and beaded lizards
- there were no Desert pupfish on exhibit
- New Species: Spiny-tailed monitors, Hosmer's skinks, Black-throated finches, Arizona mountain kingsnake, Speckled rattlesnake, Toothed scorpion (Non-specific species)
In Streamside
- New Species: Hadada ibis, White-crested laughingthrush
- The Hellbender sign has been upgraded into an interactive touchscreen display
The old Gila Monster exhibit next to the Crested porcupine is now occupied by Colorado River toads, which also still occupy their old exhibit in the rock walls. The Beaded Lizards and Gila Monsters also still occupy their exhibit in the nocturnal section. What was in the old Gila monster exhibit?

Terrible news, he'll be missed dearly. He and his half-brother Ronan were born at Aquarium NB in Canada and came to NC at 10 months old. Ronan's the only pinniped in the park now.The NC Zoo announced today that Paco the harbor seal passed away. The cause of death is not yet determined, although they stated that he had a large lung mass.
There's now a sign along the tram road near the Prairie habitat advertising the Asia expansion.
