One of the Zoo’s most popular animals, male giraffe Jimmie, has entered hospice care. He is 26 1/2-years-old, said to be the world’s oldest male giraffe.

Aside from longevity, the other thing to run in Mutangi’s family are twins. Mutangi has given birth to three sets of twins; while her daughter at Auckland Zoo has also given birth to twins.

On December 28th, 2020, the zoo announced they have received building permits to repair their reptile building.

On March 14th, 2021, the zoo announced that a (1.0) Arctic wolf named Thunder went back on exhibit on March 7th after exhibiting and recovering from two rare bacteria in his spinal fluid.

On June 12th, the zoo announced that a (0.1) bobcat named Dakota has passed away on June 10th due to unspecified issues.

On July 6th, the zoo announced they have acquired a (1.0) Pyrenean Mountain dog named Spike to be used as a companion animal for one of their (0.1) Arctic wolves named Shadow.

On January 20th, 2022, the zoo announced plans for a massive renovation of their Amur tiger exhibit. It is still in the early stages, as the zoo is currently looking for a corporate sponsor. The zoo did release a visual diagram of what the future space would look like, which can be viewed here.

On December 5th, the zoo announced that 2+ domestic goats (breed(s) not specified) were born which are on exhibit.

On August 21st, the zoo announced that a (1.0) brown bear named Ringo passed away at age 11 due to spinal injuries.

On November 29th, the zoo announced they acquired a (0.1) snowy owl named Hedwig which is on exhibit.

On December 3rd, the zoo announced they acquired (0.2) generic giraffes named Asha and Jill from unspecified facilities in Louisiana and Arizona, respectively, which are on exhibit.
