The choices are…
a. Kamaria: meaning beautiful like the moonlight in Swahili
b. Kifaru: meaning rhino in Swahili
c. Ilanga: meaning sun in Xhosa

The winning name will be announced next Wednesday, September 29th!

From taking a glance at the comments, Kifaru is most likely out of the game already. It also looks like Kamaria (my vote!) is slightly more popular than Ilanga.

As of 2016, they were only held in five facilities:

San Diego Zoo Safari Park
Dallas Zoo
World Bird Sanctuary
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo
Denver Zoo

I’ve done searches of the other four (and a general search) and it doesn’t appear there’s been any previous hatchings.

Dallas and Denver no longer have them.

The Southern tamandua born in July is a male and has been named Tatis:

Newborn at San Diego Zoo named after Padres superstar | cbs8.com

The male southern tamandua pup, was recently named Tatis, in honor of Padres superstar, Fernando Tatis, Jr.

The zoo said when the mother, Cora, is ready, she will bring her pup out where guests may see them on a Behind-the-Scenes Safari at the Safari Park’s Wildlife Connections habitat or up close during an unscheduled wildlife presentation inside the Safari Park.

What a great news @Julio C Castro ! Thank you for sharing! Last year the Bontebok habitat was in the beginning of the African Woods, just before the Giant Eland/Red-fronted Gazelle exhibit. Is it the same place? Which is one is the Addra Gazelle/Addax exhibit ? The Giant Eland's or the Gerenuk/Red-flancked Duiker?

That is correct, the same place you saw the Bontebok is where the Slender Horned Gazelle are at :) And the former Giant Eland habitat next to them is now the home to the Addra Gazelle and Addax herds!

Thank you :) ! So where are the Giant Elands ? Are they on exhibit only at the Zoo now, same as the Bontebok?

Unfortunately the Giant Elands have been returned back to their owners, at least most that were able to travel while some may have stayed behind the scenes due to their old age :/ It’s been talked about that the owners of the Eland were quite difficult to work with so they parted ways unfortunately. @Great Argus you just beat me by a few seconds with the reply :eek:

I heard about that, but didn't know that the things are so serious! :( They were one of the main reasons for me to visit San Diego. Truly iconic species. What a loss! Hopefully they will be around, at least.

The SD Zoo still has a the sole male with Grevy’s zebra herd, albeit a really old individual so maybe not for much longer :/ It’s a sad loss to us ungulate lovers but we can only hope that no further loss of species continues to happen due to multitudes of issues :oops:
