AZA Asian Elephant Population Revamp (Fantasy)

Cincinnati Zoo - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA 3.4
0.1 My Thai 1973-00-00 (Cincinnati Zoo)
0.1 Schottzie (Chieng Mai x Buag Hah) 1975-12-15 (Cincinnati Zoo)
1.0 Sabu 1988-00-00 (Cincinnati Zoo)
0.1 Yasmin (Ramon x Irma) 1990-11-25 (Dublin Zoo)
0.1 Anak (Alexander x Yasmin) 2003-07-26 (Dublin Zoo)
1.0 Kabir (Upali x Yasmin) 2017-05-15 (Dublin Zoo)
1.0 Sanjay (Upali x Anak) 2018-02-10 (Dublin Zoo)

Yasmin and Anak will be imported to the Cincinnati Zoo to expand its breeding program and bring in new genetics to the AZA. Kabir and Sanjay will be imported here as well to bring in new genetics as well help the Cincinnati Zoo establish a small bachelor herd. Sabu will breed with Yasmin and Anak as well as being the leader of the bachelor herd. Now the zoo would have two herds. The main herd being Schottziethe, Mai Thai, Yasmin, and Anak and the bachelor herd being Kabir and Sanjay with Sabu rotating between both.

After some consideration I have decided to redo some of my ideas as I have thought of new ones that would work better. I plan an posting the elephants for all of the breeding facilities soon.

Smithsonian National Zoo - Washington, D.C, USA 2.4
0.1 Bozie 1975-00-00 (Smithsonian National Zoo)
0.1 Swarna 1975-00-00 (Smithsonian National Zoo)
1.0 Spike (Dahlip x Seetna) 1981-07-02 (Smithsonian National Zoo)
0.1 Shanti (Onyx x Bozie) 1990-10-11 (Houston Zoo)
0.1 Joy (Thai x Shanti) 2017-07-12 (Houston Zoo)
1.0 Nelson (Thai Shanti) 2020-05-12 (Houston Zoo)

Shanti, Joy, and Nelson will be transferred to the Smithsonian National Zoo to allow Shanti to reunite with her mother Bozie and breed with Spike. This transfer would allow the zoo to expand their breeding program and in the future Spike would be able to mate with Joy as well. Swarna is not an aggressive elephant and she gets along very well with Bozie so adding her to Boize’s matriarchal herd would work. Kamala and Maharani will be transferred to a different zoo as their genetics are common and Kamala is an aggressive female that would not get alone with the new herd.

Saint Louis Zoo - St Louis, Missouri, USA 1.5
0.1 Ellie 1971-00-00 (Saint Louis Zoo)
0.1 Rani (Indy x Ellie) 1996-07-05 (Saint Louis Zoo)
0.1 Maliha (Raja x Ellie) 2006-08-02 (Saint Louis Zoo)
0.1 Jade (Raja x Rani) 2007-02-25 (Saint Louis Zoo)
1.0 Ongard (Bong Su x Kulab) 2010-09-10 (Zoo Miami)
0.1 Priya (Raja x Ellie) 2013-04-26 (Saint Louis Zoo)

Ongard will be transferred to the Saint Louis Zoo to breed with Rani, Maliha, Jade, and Pryia. This would allow the zoo to expand their breeding program and for Ongard, who is a very genetically valuable elephant to breed. Donna, Pearl, and Siri will be transferred to another zoo as they are not-related to the new herd and the move would allow the zoo to expand its breeding program now that it has more space.

ABQ BioPark Zoo- Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
0.1 Irene 1967-00-00 (ABQ BioPark Zoo)
0.1 Alice 1974-00-00 (ABQ BioPark Zoo)
1.0 Sabu 1988-00-00 (Cincinnati Zoo)
0.1 Rozana (Ranchipur x Alice) 1992-11-08 (ABQ BioPark Zoo)
0.1 Jazmine (Samson x Rozana) 2013-10-02 (ABQ BioPark Zoo)
1.0 Thorn (Samson x Rozana) 2018-05-04 (ABQ BioPark Zoo)

Sabu will be transferred to the ABQ BioPark Zoo to breed with Rozana and Jasmine. This transfer would allow the zoo to expand its elephant herd and breeding program with genetically valuable elephants.

So Sabu will not mate with Yasmin and Anak or will he breed with all four cows

In order for the AZA to expand its breeding program and to keep genetic diversity, the AZA will need to collaborate with the EAZA through importations and exportations of elephants. The partnership would benefit both associations.

Imports from Europe
Ten elephants will be imported to the AZA from Europe. These imports would bring in more genetic diversity and breeding candidates. The eventual goal would be more collaboration between the two groups to help sustain the captive elephant population.

1.0 Shahrukh (Hussein x Yashoda) 2008-11-21 (Szeged Zoo)
1.0 Rajendra (Sang Raja x Tong Koon) 2011-04-08 (La Tanière)

Exports to Europe
In return, five elephants will be exported to Europe. These exports would bring in new genetics to the European population. Once the current population starts to be self-sustaining, more exports to Europe will happen.

1.0 Osgood (Charlie x Emma) 1999-08-16 to Copenhagen Zoo
1.0 Chuck (Rex x Mali) 2008-07-15 to Leipzig Zoo
1.0 Baylor (Thai x Shanti) 2010-05-04 to Berlin Zoo
1.0 Hugo (Tommy x Whimpy) 2011-04-25 to Chester Zoo

I'm really enjoying this thread! I love how you are trying to keep it as realistic as possible and including a good amount (not too much and not inexistent) of imports/exports from/to Europe.

You know what I find very ironic is that Baylor half brother Kiba moved to Berlin zoo aswell

Nice job, though I don’t understand a fair bit of it :p

Thank you for the kind comments! I appreciate them a lot. :)

That was completely unintentional but a funny coincidence.

Three facilities in North America will house surplus bulls so that way there is not an issue in housing for them in the future.. The facilities are the Denver Zoo, Los Angeles Zoo, and Dickerson Park Zoo. Here is a list of which elephants should be sent to each zoo.

Los Angeles Zoo - Los Angeles, California, USA 4.0
1.0 Samson (Calvin x Kitty) 1998-05-04 (Oregon Zoo)
1.0 Albert (Calvin x Lilly) 1998-11-29 (ABQ Biopark Zoo)
1.0 Bowie (Samson x Bluebonnet) 2013-08-05 (Fort Worth Zoo)
1.0 Duncan (Thai x Shanti) 2014-02-07 (Houston Zoo)

Denver, Colorado, USA 5.0
1.0 Colonel (Buke x Whimpy) 1991-04-04 (Fort Worth Zoo)
1.0 Romeo (Pete x Alana) 1993-01-10 (Fort Worth Zoo)
1.0 Kandula (Calvin x Shanthi) 2001-11-25 (Oklahoma City Zoo)
1.0 Bodhi (Coco x Phoebe) 2004-04-16 (Denver Zoo)
1.0 Billy (Alexander x Yasmin) 2008-02-17 (Denver Zoo)

Dickerson Park Zoo - Springfield, Missouri, USA 4.0
1.0 Indy 1972-00-00 (Dickerson Park Zoo)
1.0 Hank (Vance x Mala) 1988-01-16 (Columbus Zoo)
1.0 Raja (Onyx x Pearl) 1992-12-27 (Saint Louis Zoo)
1.0 Beco (Coco x Phoebe) 2009-03-27 (Columbus Zoo)

How are Raja and Romeo surplus to the population Romeo only has three calves two daughters and a son born last month, and Raja only has two daughters

How are Raja and Romeo surplus to the population Romeo only has three calves two daughters and a son born last month, and Raja only has two daughters
Raja currently has three daughters: Jade, Maliha, and Pryia, not two. Raja’s father Onyx is very well represented in the North American Population with 12 individuals currently related to him and one more on the way. This makes Raja not genetically valuable. Romeo is not genetically valuable because even though his father’s side is genetically valuable, his mothers genetics are very common in the USA and he has three offspring. Romeo may be more genetically valuable than Raja but neither one of them is very genetically valuable and their are better breeding candidates out there.
