Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium News 2021

In the latest ZooPrints magazine mailed to members, the Letter from the CEO section by Dennis Pate announced a couple of other births at the end of the summer. In addition to the birth of the giraffe, Arthur, which was reported on here, he also announced the Malayan Tapir calf was born (pregnancy was discussed on here earlier this summer). I haven't seen any other info anywhere on this birth and he doesn't elaborate other than it is in the Lied Jungle. He doesn't specify if it is male or female.

The other birth he talked about was at the Simmons Safari Park and 3 Cheetah cubs were born at the Cheetah Conservation Center. I will post in that thread as well, but posted here as it was in the Zoo's quarterly publication.

There are also Sulawesi Created Macaques rotated with the Angolan Colobus & Blue Monkeys in Hubbard Gorilla Valley.
Good to hear these are still here. Did you visit this week to see them? During the renovation of Gorilla Valley I wasn’t sure if they still kept the species. Seemed like they might have relocated them elsewhere.

I visited yesterday and saw them on exhibit. A bit disappointed not to see the Blue Monkeys, but Sulawesi Crested Macaques are pretty cool as well.

Are there still Agile Gibbons at Omaha? They used to be in the indoor Orangutan Exhibit, but that hasn’t been open for a little over a year,so they could have departed (or died), with that timeframe.

The last I saw them was in one of the outdoor former cat cages along the south side of the Cat Complex last year at some point. I’d have to go back and check my photos when that was. Been patiently waiting for indoor orangutan house to open to see what is still in there.

Checked my photos, have photos of Agile Gibbon on August 6th, 2020 and September 13th, 2020. The first is outside, the second one inside Orangutan Forest. So we will wait and see once the indoor portion re-opens. Pleasantly surprised about the Sulawesi Crested Macaques so here’s hoping.

Thibodaux, the leucistic gator, finally moved into his new home in the Kingdoms of the Night! Been waiting for this for a little over a year now. This is the former nutria habitat.

Is he in the old caiman exhibit now? Or is it the old Nutria exhibit? If either, how disappointing. His space was already perfectly fine, I would prefer if either of those species came back.

I am visiting this weekend, and I was wondering what I should expect from a cold weathered visit. I think I can make good educated guesses on this, but what animals won't be outside?

It was about 48 degrees Fahrenheit when I visited a couple weeks ago (not very cold for me, but might be for others), so expect there to be moderately cold weather. Almost all animals were outside when I visited, so most species should be out. Make sure to stick around & see if you can see the Togo Slippery Frogs (which I unfortunately missed when I was there). They’re in between the Lake Titicaca Water Frog & Haitian Boa exhibits.

I agree with @Dhole dude above. I’ve gone to the zoo with snow on the ground in December many times and you’d be surprised what is outside on exhibit. I think I’ve almost seen all the megafauna outside during winter at times, usually birds and smaller mammals and reptiles are in for the winter.

@Dhole dude @MGolka Thanks for detailed answers guys, definitely not what I expected. In terms of outdoor species, my aim is the Great Apes - so fingers crossed on them. At least I can still see them indoors.
