I thought the former elephant house was what became Tropical America? Also, didn't the masterplan call for tearing Admin down to get colobus monkeys?
I thought it was tearing the seal exhibit down and using both sides for the colobus monkeys.

On second glance to the masterplan, the colobus are in fact next to the admin building, not replacing it. The seal exhibit is turned into bighorn sheep (facing N. America side) and the colobus use some of the wasted space outside the elephant pavilion.I thought it was tearing the seal exhibit down and using both sides for the colobus monkeys.
It’s certainly “possible” there have been a number of brand new breeding pairs put together recently. And if Talini of Lincoln park were to have a cub I believe RWPZ would be able to pull genetic claim as her father was born here, but it obviously depends on if the bears start producing cubs or not. We’ll see, it’s unlikely, but possible.
No, they are uncle and niece but they are recommended to breed with one another because of how few unrelated individuals there are in the population.Aren't the polar bears at Brookfield father and daughter?

As far as I know, there's legislation that prevents this from happening, otherwise this would have happened ages ago. IDK if it's the Marine Mammal Protection Act, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was.Yeah, that's not great. Can they import individuals from Europe, or are the trade laws not good?

I think this is the wrong place to have this discussion on the polar bear population. There are already threads on this subject, and there's no need to discuss it on a news thread for a zoo that does not, and likely will never again, exhibit polar bears.Yeah, that's not great.
