my point of not getting is that I don’t get how the idea of me breaking heteronormative expectations, has to do with me not facing certain surprises (which probably has more to do with me being a socially inept and reprehensible individual, rather than me not knowing my preferences)

The cartoon was meant to poke fun at your assumption that your parents would be surprised by your behavior. They probably know you better than you might think.
