Ok, I hope they really tried too. Not just a single failure and then accepting defeat. Is there a reason she’s not been bred with Kandula. I mean that’s why he’s there.

What zoo was Kandula born at and does he have valuable genetics?

Kandula is was born at the Smithsonian National Zoo, and he is not genetically value on his fathers Calvin side but on his mothers Shanti side he is valuable

He was born at the Smithsonian. He is his wild born mother, Shanti’s, only calf but his father is Calvin so his half brothers are Albert, Samson, George, and Johnson who have between the four of them produced around 14 living calves.

They certainly could, and I hope they have, it just seems odd because a live breeding is more likely to be successful than AI.

I think the reason why the have not moved her to Tulsa on a breeding loan is because they want to say with the rest of the herd and she might give Sneezy the same treatment as Rex

Very interesting. It’s so disappointing that she never conceived despite being inseminated atleast twice. Looks like they inseminated her for the second time in December 2016, probably to try and get two calves born right around the same time.

That would have been nice to have 2 calves at the same time, hopefully the zoo will try to get her bred but the this state that is unlikely to happen
It has nothing to do with Rex. It's all to do with Chandra. Kandula would be no more successful than any other bull, and if anything less successful, considering Rex has naturally sired 7 calves with 5 different cows, as opposed to Kamdulas 0 and 0.
Most likely Chandra just has some sort of reproductive pathology that prevents her from either becoming or maintaining a pregnancy it could be either hormonal ( which is potentially treatable) however if it's something physical, there's likely no recourse of action for that.
Regardless, OKC will likely have two calves on the ground at the same time in about four years time, assuming everything goes well.
