Most exotic animals seen on the pet trade

One of the weirdest animals I ever got to see at a pet store was a Snowy owl (Bubo scandiacus). It apparently had been shipped from Scandinavia and was being held at the store before being given to a falconer or something along the lines.

I’ve found YouTube videos about antbirds as pets in Brazil. Antbirds has NEVER bred in captivity so I think those trades are illegal.

Unless I’m much mistaken, at least one antbird species was being bred at the Bronx back in the 70s.

Also the Masked crimson tanager, I’ve seen YouTube videos of Brazilians keeping them as pets, AZbirds also lists them at sale. I don't know much about them being bred and sold at Europe.

I stumbled upon this site, I don' believe it has been posted here yet:

AZ Birds

The birds here are INSANE, I found birds I've never seen before on the trade (or in a zoo) on this website.

Yeah they have pretty cool listings. Though generally I've found they rarely have much in stock, especially of rarer species.

While catering more to zoos than the private trade, Pinola Aviary is another interesting facility you might be interested in checking out.

Well they maybe sold some rarities in the past but I've checked every group and they're down to just 1 species now - the paradise tanager. Every others are out of stock, even the most common ones such as ringneck parakeet.

Low stock is typical for them whenever I've looked. The current bird flu situation is likely hampering imports/restock at present.

My understanding with AZ Birds is that, if they ever had it in stock, it goes on the website. From their page, it sounds as if they only ever had 1.0 mountain tanager for sale ever but have never removed the listing from their page after he was sold. I first found this website at least five years ago and that animal was already sold and gone and seems to be permanently "out of stock:.

David (The guy who ran AZ Birds) got out of the game completely a few years ago. Honestly I’m surprised his website is still even up!

With new restrictions that were being imposed, the vast majority of US importers who were bringing in wild stock have stopped, since they’re no longer allowed to do a variety of things that helped the birds survive the transition to captivity (mainly being heavily treated with antibiotics), and they were losing too many birds to justify continuing doing it.

as far as I know they’re only two quarantine stations in the states are still dealing with wild caught stuff, and it’s on a very small level.

I found Madagascar ground geckos of various species on Josh's Frogs!!! I had no idea they were available in the pet trade. Heck, I don't think I've seen any in zoos.
