things that make you happy in life

1. When zoo animals are born on my birthday.

2. When zoo animals are born the same time as one of my kids. My youngest son was the born the same month Wellington Zoo welcomed their newest baby chimpanzee. By an incredible coincidence, their last chimpanzee infant was also born the same month/year as another of my other sons. It’ll be fun watching them grow up together (not literally of course).

Browsing through and reading in some of my animal encyclopedias and guides. Lately I've been mostly using "All the birds of the world", "Illustrated checklist of the mammals of the world" and "Birds of Africa south of the Sahara".

Looking through photos from recent zoo visits and finding some good and nice photos.

I must say I am guilty of doing the same thing.
 
Going back home, I love university but it is nice to go back home to relax and see family sometimes. Speaking of, I'm going back home today.
 
When Bing Bong died.

Many kids movies have an obnoxious sidekick, whose sole purpose is to annoy the parents (the kids usually seem to like them); but none of my kids thus far have lamented the demise of Bing Bong. In fact the opposite...

When the movie screened in cinemas and Bing Bong faded into oblivion, the audience (kids included) clapped and cheered like our team had just won the World Cup.

You are speaking of the movie “Inside Out” yes?
 
I watched Inside Out with my niece, and I always end up getting frustrated over the Sadness touching the memories.

Anyway, my favourite things in life are my two eighteen year old cats, Buster and Harry. They are very old, but still somehow so charismatic and funny :)
 
-Listening to podcasts, mostly not Animal-related
-Going out to the pub or tavern
-Taking care of/spending time with my pets
-Learning about history
-Drawing and sketching
-Collecting books and artwork about wildlife
-Listening to 80’s-2000’s rock music
 
Looking at photos in different "Wildlife" categories of African countries in the gallery here at ZooChat made me feel a little bit better today. I am feeling far from great, but at least that provided a nice distraction. And it also introduced me to a few bird species I didn't yet know.
 
Probably the thing that made me most happy in life is: Finding very wished species (of wild/captive/cultivated animals or plants) for first time and being able to take good photos of them.

I'm also happy when I see my someone in my family is happy.
 
I was too anxious and stressed for a visit to my local zoo today, but I did find the energy for an, albeit brief, and cold but sunny walk in a nearby nature area, and I did enjoy it and it did give me a bit of relief.

I also saw a Eurasian jay during my walk - which is in my opinion one of our most beautiful native species and also one of my favorites.
