I have to admit that is a big worry of mine if Mali does have another calf again. Does she have any calves that are still alive?
Yes, she has one son Chuck who is currently a part of the bachelor herd at Denver Zoo. He was born and conceived at African Lion Safari and his father is Rex who is currently at OKC Zoo.
I only hope we have better luck with her future calves then

That's an old video, I have no idea why it was re-posted today. That's been happening a lot with SDZ lately, old videos being recirculated as news. If you watch the video it is mentioned that she was introduced to Cha Cha and Sumithi who both passed away years ago. Tina and Jewel are together and at Los Angeles still and were recently introduced to their bull Billy for the first time.

Since you are already posted it here, it’s fine.
But next time, unless it’s a pregnancy, transfer, birth update/announcement or something along those lines, just post it in the individual zoo’s thread. It’s not really necessary to duplicate posts in different threads when it’s not anything that important.

I don’t mind those little posts in threads such as this. It’s hard for me to keep up with individual zoos with my schedule sometimes so I just check my favorites. So I appreciate this post on this thread.

the zoo posted on Facebook yesterday he has very low levels of EEHV and is still acting normally. Considering he’s also receiving round the clock care and receiving antiviral treatment I have very high hopes he’ll beat it. Even the zoo saids they believe he’ll beat it in this article here

ABQ BioPark zoo posted an update yesterday on Thorn, their 3 year old male Asian Elephant who tested positive for EEHV. Sadly his recent daily tests show an escalation in viral loads but he continues to receive round the clock care and treatment.

I wonder if his mom is trying to wean him? The virus seems to pop up when there is a new calf or weaning or a big change.

He is three years old and that is the age in which females start to push away their older claves.

On top of that, I suspect Rozie may be pregnant with a new calf coming soon so that might be pushing her to wean him. Typically, cows will let their calves nurse for up to 4-6 years as long as they don’t have a new calf.
