Burgers' Zoo Burgers' Zoo 2021

According to Zootierliste, Burgers' Zoo has recently got a new quail species in the Desert. It is the Montezuma quail (Cyrtonyx montezumae), Burgers' Zoo is the only keeper of this quail species in Europe.

It appears they are rather uncommon in the USA as well. As @Platypusboy said, I am curious to know where they came from. They do appear to be a bit of a secretive species, so I’m not sure how visible they will be.

Also, what species of cardinal lives in the desert area?

I suspect from a private breeder. In Europe they are kept privately, albeit in small numbers.

The Northern cardinal

Smaller birds in the Desert hall:
Northern cardinal, rose-bellied bunting, ultramarine grosbeak, Painted bunting, Mexican House finch, Lawrence goldfinch, yellow grosbeak

(Also gambel's quail, Turkey vulture, white-winged dove, socorro dove, and now montezuma quail)

Thanks, I wasn’t sure if they were pyrrhuloxia/desert cardinals or northerns. I see plenty of northern cardinals in my ever so temperate home.

Well, true sonoran species are hard to come by. And Northern cardinals (as well as some other animals) live throughout all of North America.

You could place a cougar in nearly every type of habitat, as they live all the way from Southernmost argentina to Canada
