We went today. Zufari was closed, so could not see rhino, flamingos, oryx and Blesbok. Zebra and Ankole cattle can only be seen from afar. Though local to us, we don’t go to Chessington usually as we don’t want to pay for the theme park. Everything (apart from the excellent tiger enclosure) felt a bit run down. Two enclosures had red foxes in them, which is very underwhelming (formerly Ocelot and one not sure), and the former bintarong enclosure had a coati, which used to be with the capybaras. It all felt a bit unloved.

@Beacon is there much changes or maintenance going on in the Theme Park side of Chessington? Regarding the Zoo I have heard a new Enclosure for the Western Lowland Gorillas and Asiatic Lions is in the pipeline. Do you know when the construction of the new enclosures is due to commence?

Not sure to be honest, but it would make sense what you are saying, given that the bush dogs are in such a large enclosure next to the Gorillas and Lions. On the maintenance the path from Wanyama to the flamingo lake was closed for maintenance, but that was all I saw.

did u get close to the tigers . as when we went we werent allowed to as they are actually in the theme park

Yes. Saw all four of them.

@Beacon as a Zoo enthusiast like myself,do you like the fact that Chessington have incorporated the Amur Tigers into the Theme Park?

@Beacon did you notice if the Tunnel on Tiger Rock (The Log Flume),is being made to look like a Tiger? I belong to some Theme Park forums and have heard on them as well as YouTube that Tiger Rock is undergoing a refurbishment. Someone on YouTube stated that this includes the retheme of the Tunnel to a Tiger.

Personally I like the fact Chessington is integrating the Zoo into the Theme Park. A number of the lands at Chessington have now got animals within them. These Lands include Wild Asia,Mexicana,The Rainforest and Zufari. I have never been to Animal Kingdom in Florida, but from what I have seen online Chessington World Of Adventures is the English equivalent.

Finally I would like to add that Chessington is my favourite Theme Park as it combines my 2 dream attractions a Zoo and a Theme Park.

They moved to Shepreth in 2019.

@Themonkeyguy1 I believe the enclosure that formally housed Ratna and Kelabu in now used for Bush Dogs. Now that the Amur into in The Land Of The Tigers are ageing, I wonder what Chessington has planned for the enclosure. I wouldn't be surprised if the next Tiger's to reside in The Land Of The Tigers are of the Sumatran variety. Not only is the enclosure that surrounds Tiger Rock the largest in Britain, but Sumatran Tigers are critically endangered the enclosure at Chessington would be the ideal setting for a breeding pair.

I'm not sure if this is right place to post this, but back in 2016 I visited Chessington and was pleased to see Dorcas gazelle for the first time. However, they are not listed as ever being at Chessington on zootierliste. Any ideas?

Chessington have definitely had Dorcas Gazelle. A quick search online can confirm this.

I haven’t always seen zootierliste to be entirely accurate though, so this may be the case here.
