Weird; I thought we'd found it and you had just forgotten to add it like with the roadrunner. But I just re-read your post and realized I have no memory of seeing it. I think what happened is that it was the first enclosure I saw and I spaced what we did there because I was still trying to adjust one of the camera lenses. I dropped it from my list so I think everything is good now.

I tried but never found it, thought you must have since you were looking a little longer. I meant to go back in and look again before we left but forgot.

Unfortunately no :p you can only count one of these, per the rules for that trial:

I think any of those three species should count for 1 of your 3 spots, so doesn't really matter which one you go with.

For future reference, One Zoo Wonder can't be claimed for trials that only require one species. However, thanks to the callitrichids and PDFs you still got it anyway. Speaking of which:

That's a lot of Ranitomeya! I haven't even heard of some of those species. Are they all mixed together in one terrarium or do they have multiple enclosures?

I did actually remember that rule! :confused: I just copied over my "completed" trials at the end and didn't think a thing about it... I will fix that as well.

It certainly is! They have a whole wall of Ranitomeya terrariums (one for each species) in the Cloud Forest Trek exhibit-- there was even a sixth species (!), but I could not find it.

Ah, that's cool. With Cloud Forest Trek being new that's probably how I didn't know about them until now. If you happen to have any photos some of those might be new species for the media gallery (I'm thinking 4-6 in particular).

Out of curiosity what was the sixth species?

Unfortunately, the terrariums were very misty and curve of the glass made for some pretty intense glare, so none of the pictures I have are really worth sharing. The sixth species was the mimic posion frog, Ranitomeya imitator.

Forgot to respond to this the other day, but that's an interesting statement to make. From the extensive research I've done, very few zoos have more than 1 or 2 species of mantella; the only ones I know of with 4 or more are Omaha and Detroit. That's why the target is set at 3 (originally it was 4).

I actually do have photos for most of the species as well as the general layout for the terrariums, which I'll be posting soon for my DWA thread.

Omaha's doesn't have four species in it. They have a sign that talks about mantella in general and has four species on it, but on my 2019 visit they had Climbing, Blue-Legged, and then one Splendid (plus Powder-Blue Reed Frog).

Those are the only two zoos I've been to with mantella frogs, so that would explain it.

I find this trial method very interesting. And since there’s a trial poking fun on how there’s meerkats “everywhere” I would have made a trial called “the little red menace” which is the red panda version of the meerkat trial. But then again I am not even participating so I have no right to give suggestions.
 
Meerkat was a weird choice though, given they're far from ubiquitous in the US and I usually only see them at 2 or 3 zoos a year. I would have made the challenge to see a bunch of Bobcats or Black-tailed Prairie Dogs.

Not weird when you consider that the “meerkats are everywhere” meme here on ZC. However that meme only exists because of how easy to obtain meerkats are on the Eastern hemisphere, where this site has a lot of members from. Still a weird animal to claim that it’s ubiquitous in the US.
