Particularly pleasing were the Iris lorikeet, Golden-shouldered parrot and the Scaly-breasted lorikeets, all lifers :).

Well I wish there were turacos now - would have 10 species already (White-cheeked, White-crested, Red-crested, Hartlaub's, Lady Ross's, Schalow's, Violet, Green, Black-billed and Fischer's) plus Purple-crested coming soon...

Tiergarten Schönbrunn (30.03.2022)

Had my first zoo visit of the year so I can officially participate! I saw every species of parrot on show, but I still only netted two species for the challenge. For one of the most beloved Dutch zoos, the parrot collection is a little underwhelming at the moment, to say the least.

* What is the official stance in this thread on the status of Amazona lilacina? Is it separate from autumnalis or not?

** These birds were technically off-show but easily visible from the visitor patch. I assume it counts, but if the judges rule otherwise I'm fine with removing it.

*** Is there anyone who can shed a light on the Trichoglossus haematodus sensu lato in Walsrode? There's a large flock signed as moluccanus in Toowoomba, and a pair, also signed as moluccanus, in Pukara. According to zootierliste, the ones in Pukara should be haematodus sensu stricto. Has this changed or is the signage out of date?

1) A.lilacina counts as separate from autumnalis

2) Birds that are technically offshow but visible from an area that visitors could see do count. It just wouldn't count if you were in an area not accessible to the public normally.

3) moluccanus counts as a separate species to haematodus. But in addition to the large flock of the former, the zoo have a mixed ssp pair of haematodus plus an animal that is non-subspecific. The pair consist of one nominate animal and one deplanchii. So you would have two separate ticks :)

Thank you! I know Zie-ZOO, which I'll visit for sure, has a nominate autumnalis so it's good to know I can count them separately.

And still a good few to go that I didn't see today - hopefully I'll be able to cross off the remaining ones on my next visit in the coming week.

How times can change.... Had I visited Rotterdam Zoo ( Blijdorp ) about 25 years ago, I would have a lot of new species to add on the Parrot Challenge list ( among them rare ones like Musk lorikeet, Blue-eyed cockatoo, Pesquet's parrot and so on ).
Last weekend I visited the Zoo and hoped to add at least one new species to this years list ( Plum-headed parakeet ) but they didn't show themselfs. That would have ment that I had missed 50 % of all parrot-species currently kept at the zoo - the other one being the Hyacinth macaw which I already had seen at another collection this year. But also the Hyacinth macaw was not to be found so no parrots at all on this visit :( !
