Honest opinion time - I don't think you're going to win.

Second honest opinion time - That list has some species in it that I'd kill to see so who cares about winning anyway... :p

Tierpark Berlin is changing his face really fast these days. Many big projects are on the way and the animals shifting their enclousures all the time. I saw the 4 Gnus, opposite the Reedbuck exhibit, where one more baby was born :) Besides a lot of offspring, there are two new exciting inhabitants - Balabac chevrotain and the Guianan bearded saki. I couldn't find the Bush Dogs. Their exhibit is occupied by Maned Wolves now. White-bearded Masked Palm Civet didn't show up either.

Ha ha ha, thank you!
Yes, if everything is going according to the plan, your Hamerton visit shouldn't scare me :p So pity that the Tiger Quoll is no longer there... As you very well said, who cares about winning :)

Honest opinion time - I don't think you're going to win.

Definitely not.

No Leadbeater's Possum?

~Thylo

They're not actually on display - you can see their housing from about 10 metres away, but you'd have to be miraculously lucky to actually see one.

I had a few significant no-shows - feathertail glider, brush-tailed rock-wallaby and fat-tailed dunnart chief among them - but should have further opportunities either at Healesville or elsewhere later in the year.

That's disappointing! I'd always thought they were on-show and are high on my list of Australian zoo taxa to see should I ever make it over

Hope you manage to see the missed species eventually!

Honest opinion time - I don't think you're going to win.

Colchester Zoo 25th February: Short and not very productive trip- 1st of the year.
1. Slender-snouted Crocodile (mecistops cataphractus)
2. Great Grey Owl (Strix nebulosa)
3. Amur Tiger (Panthera tigris altaica)
4. Eurasian Grey Wolf (Canis lupus lupus)
5. Aardvark (Orycteropus afer)
6. Pygmy Hippopotamus (Choeropsis liberiensis)
7. Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus)
8. African Lion (Panthera leo)
I am not very confident about this list and if some of them might be wrong, as I am not very sure about the Latin terms. For example I don't know if I could include Rock Hyraxes in this list which I saw with the Aadvarks.
Finally I have finished this- it was very confusing but I understood the species included in the challenge more towards the end of writing list for all of the species I had seen that counted. It also helped that I could look at what species others had listed from visiting Hamerton (thanks guys). Hopefully I will be able to cope better next time- there will probably be less species to deal with anyway.

Hamerton Zoo Park 6th March: (my first visit)
9. Binturong (Arcitis binturong) I'm not sure if this was the Javan species as I think there was youngsters, they were in the first enclosure on the right as you enter the zoo, I saw them indoors with 3 individuals in the left section and 1 on the right.
10. Long nosed potoroo (Potorus tridactylus)
11. Fat sand rat (Psammomys obesus)
12. Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus)
13.Tawny Frogmouth (Podargus strigoides)
14. Parma Wallaby (Notamacropus parma)
15. Bennetts Wallaby (Notamacropus rufogriseus)
16. Giant Anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla)
17. Two toed sloth (Choloepus didactylus)
18. Mainland Wombat (Vombatus ursinus hirsutus)
19. Squirrel Glider (Petaurus norfolcensis)
20. Greater Grison (Galictis vittata)
21. Spinifex hopping mouse (Notomys alexis)
22. Corsac Fox (Vulpes corsac)
23. Eurasian harvest mouse (Micromys minutus)
24. Canadian lynx (Lynx canadensis)
25. Serval (Leptailurus serval)
26. Meerkat (Suricata suricatta) this works out quite well as this spot was for Dingo, then I realised it had been confirmed that they didn't count. I have now replaced this with meerkats as previously I thought they didn't count as no one else from a Hamerton visit had listed them but then I realised that a post I hadn't previously seen had listed them. Confusing but convenient.
27. Tayra (Eira barbara)
28. White Tiger (Panthera tigris)
29. Malayan Tiger (Panthera tigris jacksoni)
30. Eastern Aardwolf (Proteles cristata septentrionalis)
31. Jaguarundi (Herpailurus yagouaroundi)

This took a lot of effort but now I am finished I will begin to post more of my media from my zoo visits this year.

Meerkats don't count, no mongoose count.

@vogelcommando initially included mongoose in his list but has since removed them. Having checked the thread, it seems @ThomasNotTom did count two species in his first post which both @ZooBinh and I missed:

Starting with a banger... Exmoor Zoo - 12/01/2022.

20. Meerkat, Suricata suricatta
21. Dwarf mongoose , Helogale parvula

I'm sorry for not catching it earlier but @ThomasNotTom you will need to remove the two from your total.

Sorry about that everyone. If there is any confusion, remember the very first post on this thread has a list of eligible animals :)

47) Barbary Striped Grass Mouse Lemniscomys barbarus

:p

~Thylo

I've just realized I missed an eligible species from Mystic Aquarium back in January!

48) Wiegmann's Striped Gecko Gonatodes vittatus

I forgot about it because I'm aware that much of Sphaerodactylidae are dirunal, but for simplicity's sake it's only Phelsuma we disqualified.

~Thylo

26. Meerkat (Suricata suricatta
I will now replace Meerkat for Dingo
26. Dingo (Canis dingo)
and I will remove
28. White Tiger
29. Malayan Tiger
as I already have
3.Amur Tiger
from Colchester. Thanks guys, sorry for causing a bit of confusion but it is good that things have been cleared up now.

The Leadbeater's Possums are - or were - normally on display in the nocturnal house (as well in the outside enclosures where you can't see them). I've definitely seen them in there. It may be a temporary thing that there aren't any in the nocturnal house.

Yeah, I think I’ve seen them in there but not on my last two visits (February 2020 and 2022, respectively).
