Jai the Sumatran Tiger has been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and is also being treated for a secondary infection related to the disease. Jai is currently the most genetically valuable male Sumatran tiger in the SSP.

Has artificial insemination ever been successful with tigers? If so, they should probably collect his sperm and store it while they still can.

No not really, there have been lots of attempts (especially with the Amur population) but very few surviving cubs have been born.

Jai has just been really unlucky, Joanne who arrived from SDZSP in 2021 to be paired with him is his 5th intended mate and he hasn't produced cubs with any of them :(
 
The zoo is planning on building new habitats for its cougars and jaguars.

That's good. The cougar habitat is OK, but the jaguar cage (and I mean cage) is really inadequate and was a low point of the zoo, IMO.

So apparently the zoo has permanently closed its 4D Theater.

What do you all think would be the wisest use of the space now? I’d personally like to see it be used for an educational area, but perhaps some of you have other ideas.

The Black-footed Ferrets are in an off-exhibit building that's part of the conservation center. One might be able to see one if participating in a backstage tour.

However, I would check with the zoo and make sure the tour includes viewing of the ferret building beforehand.
