Hello Zoochat community! I am a soon to be geology graduate based out of Arizona with a passion for natural history. I have begun taking on photography as a hobby of mine, and I love to merge it with my love for the zoological sciences. I have a special interest in reptiles, especially squamates such as varanids and crocodilians.

I currently live in the Phoenix area, so I frequently visit the Phoenix Zoo, as well as the aquariums near me, Odysea and SEA Life AZ. I am hoping to visit the AZ Sonoran Desert Museum, as well as the Reid Park Zoo, in Tucson. The last zoo I have been to not in my state was San Diego Zoo, though I have also visited Calgary Zoo, Honolulu Zoo, and Ueno Zoo in Japan. I actually tend to visit more Natural History Museums than zoos, and I have worked in one before, but I am hoping to visit more zoos soon!

Hate to be so forward so quickly…but what are your favorite Natural History Museums. Which would you recommend. I’m not familiar with too many out west. I did visit the one in Japan right near Ueno Zoo.

Good question! One of my favorite nat history museums is the Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona. They have an excellent exhibit design that is set up chronologically through geologic time and a great diversity of specimens. The one is Tokyo is also another excellent one. In terms of ones in the US, I am partial to the Los Angeles Natural History Museum, especially their renovated dinosaur hall.

Welcome! Since you like herps, have you been to Superstition Serpentarium in Apache Junction? There's also the Phoenix Herpetological Sanctuary in Scottsdale.
