Hello! I am a 16 (soon to be 17) year old student in West Texas. I go by the name "gingerale" on the internet (for safety and because it's my favorite drink
). Outside of Texas, I've been to the Smithsonian National Zoo in DC and the Disneyworld Animal Kingdom in Orlando. Some of the zoos I've been to in Texas are (including but not limited to) the Abilene Zoo, the Amarillo Zoo, the Dallas Zoo, the San Antonio Zoo. I've also had the opportunity to visit the Chennai Zoo, Yercaud Deer Park, and the Hogenakkal Crocodile Rehabilitation Center, all in the state of Tamil Nadu, India.
Some personal favorites of mine are Fossil Rim in Dallas (my cousin got pecked by an ostrich there) and the Houston Zoo (first zoo trip I went to all by myself, had a wonderful experience). I am particularly fond of the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi, as I went there many times as a child, as well as Sea Turtle Inc, a conservation group for sea turtles in South Padre Island that I also visited many times. I am also a fan of the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Reserve, where you can get the chance to see wild ocelots!
The zoo that is the closest to my heart is Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville, Texas. I must have gone there 10-15 times as a young child, and I loved every second of it. It's very near and dear to me. I got to revisit it during spring break of 2020, and I hope to go back and visit sometime soon.
I am also a big fan of natural history, prehistory, natural history museums, and Dinosaurs! I've loved them since I was a kid. I've visited the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, the Wyoming Dinosaur Center, the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science in Albuquerque, the Perot Museum in Dallas, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. My personal favorite is the Morian Hall of Paleontology at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, it's got an extremely impressive fossil collection and is curated by the renowned paleontologist Robert Bakker
!
I have interest in reptiles, but I am eager to take my first steps into the world of zoology and zoos. Hopefully this newbie can learn something!
