Cape May County Park & Zoo Cape May County Zoo News

A 68-year-old named Princess has arrived at the zoo from her permanent home at Philadelphia Zoo while her habitat is under renovations.
I didn't know there are zoos that house humans... looks like I'll have to head out to CMCZ to see this rarity!

In all seriousness, I just checked the zoo's Instagram and it looks like Princess is a female Andean condor.

Well that's odd. Princess left Philly two years ago to retire.

Does the zoo still keep the following species
Golden lion tamarin
Black-headed ibis(there was some misconceptions that it’s not there, but apparently it’s on their new, updated website)
Black Swan
Ruddy Shelduck
Bar-headed Goose

They keep all but the ibis.

Updates from my visit today:
  • The zoo, like many other zoos, has been taking many precautions to protect their birds from HPAI.
    • The free-roaming guineafowl are in a previously empty cage across from the flamingos and the peafowl are spread out between the macaw cages and former coati cage.
    • The World of Birds is closed and the macaws that live on the left side of the building are inside as well. The flamingos, caracara, and kookaburra are also off exhibit.
    • Birds that are still on exhibit include the Gray Parrot, cockatoo, Scarlet Macaw, eagle, outdoor waterfowl, Emus, condor, and owls.
  • According to the zoo's new map, White-eared Titis have repleced the Golden Lion Tamarins that lived with the marmoset. The toucan holding building is complete, however I did not see them or signage, so I would guess they have yet to arrive.
  • Amphibian & Reptile House updates:
    • The zoo no longer holds Tiger Salamander or Chinese Alligator
    • New reptiles include Common Blue-tongued Skink, Eastern Milk Snake, and American Alligator hatchlings
  • The zoo no longer has American Red Foxes (V. vulpes fulva), only the non-subspecific silver Red Fox.

Thank you for the update. Hopefully, the bird flu will pass soon.
