Hawk Conservancy Trust Hawk Conservancy Trust news

The notice on the pen only gave details of the original 2 birds , including Fergus , which were both from the British release scheme , but injured .

Thanks for the update Bele. I believe the 'Spanish' male(confiscated in Belgium) wasn't part of the release programme though- as he wasn't the correct race?

An African White backed vulture has been successfully
Hatched and is being reared by it's mother.

A white headed vulture has been hatched and is
Currently being mother reared

There's a disappointing lack of info on this place on ZC, unless I'm missing something! I've been going there since May so if things are older than that then please forgive me.

A female blue winged kookaburra is now on display in an old owl enclosure. No idea if she'll be in the displays at some point.

The Siberian eagle owl has left the enclosure (off show?) and has been replaced by a female Euras6 eagle owl.

The Tawny eagle is now tethered instead of being in an aviary, guessing he'll be in displays soon.

An African hawk eagle has appeared from nowhere tethered near the other eagles.

Breeding is all done for this year, a good few juveniles around including the white headed vultures.

Flying today:
Valley of the eagles:
Barn owl
Saker falcon
6 hooded vultures
2 turkey vultures
9 black kites
2 bald eagles

Woodland owls:
2 barn owls
Tawny owl
Eurasian eagle owl
Great grey owl

Visited again today, couldn't work out from the website whether the first display was going to be Wings of Africa (African themed display with a variety of species) or World of Birds of Prey (I bet you can't guess what that involves). Turned out to be WoA, which finish for the year at the end of October.

A couple of things had moved around, nothing significant, and nothing new was out in an aviary. Guess nothing will really change until next spring in preparation for breeding.

Flying today

Wings of Africa:
Milky eagle owl
Secretary bird
2 African white backed vultures
3 African yellow billed kites
2 white storks
4 sacred ibis

Valley of the Eagles:
Juvenile (one year old) Egyptian vulture
Peregrine falcon
6 hooded vultures
2 turkey vultures
9 black kites
Brahminy kite
2 bald eagles

Visited yesterday - great day out as usual. Main news is they are building a new enclosure specifically for Burrowing Owls called 'Meet the Burrowers'. There were four Burrowing Owl chicks in the hospital area and the Spectacled Owl was taken off show this past weekend with the intention of the chicks going on show in that aviary temporarily.

They have also raised a Wahlbergs Eagle who is labelled as the newest member of the team - hatched about 8 months ago. Can see her egg in the hospital area which is a nice touch.

Zia, is the Wahlberg's Eagle a first?

Burrowing Owls?

Hi all. I know nothing has been posted on here for a while, but in case anyone still uses this chat:

1. Does anyone know if they still have Brahminy Kites? I'm going in August for the first time in about 8 years and I remember that they were my favourites last time, and now I have a camera I'd love to get a shot. ZTL says they no longer have them though, so I'm not too hopeful. Any clarity would be great.

2. Is it worth me doing a species list when I go and posting it on here, or would you rather use ZTL? Either is fine.

3. Are there any (other) rarities that I should prioritise when I'm there? I'm keen to see as much as possible, but if I remember correctly it is quite a big site, so if there are any species which are hard to find in zoos and sanctuaries I most-definitely want to seek out them first.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone could/may give. ;)
