New species, Fat sand rats (Psammomys obesus) behind to to vulture aviary

First birth of this year, on the 5th of January a female Defassa waterbuck (Kobus ellipsiprymnus defassa) was born.

The female fossa has left the zoo and gone back to Duisburg, as it was planned. The enclosure isn't empty now, as two brothers (*2020) have arrived from Frankfurt.

New species: the zoo now keeps Ibizan wall lizards (Podarcis pityusensis, again, according to ZTL they had the species until 2015).

Nely, a 17 year old female tiger, was euthanized today due to arthrosis and osteoporosis. She was one of a few remaining tiger hybrids in a German VdZ zoo (Hamm, Hodenhagen left).

Two new species: Black Hardun (Stellagama stellio picea) now live together with the fat sand rats. Additionally, two Von der Decken's hornbill (Tockus deckeni) now live together with the dwarf mongooses.

Well, I like the zoo, but I'm not sure I'd agree on that. There is still quite a way to go because too less happened for years, most buildings are still from the zoos opening in the 1970s...

The old coati and bear exhibits gets renovated and will later this year be housing dholes. It is planed that the area also should house sloth bears, to which exhibit the dholes also will have acces.

I know what you means. I love both species. But the mix would not be the wisest move since dholes are known to hunt sunbear sometimes

Wuppertal has Dholes that have access to the brown bear enclosure since 2018 and as far as I'm aware that seems to work until now.

Apart from the Western eurasian griffon vultures (Gyps fulvus fulvus), the Eurasian black vulture (Aegypius monachus) also have a chick.
