San Diego Zoo Safari Park San Diego Zoo Safari Park Species List (08/08/21)

Some changes I noted (there may have been more though):

Wings of the World Aviary
Small Aviary: Yellow-crowned Bishop, Bali Myna, Golden Breasted Starling, Maly Great Argus Pheasant, Snowy-crowned Robin-chat

These both hold unsigned White-crested Laughingthrush. The small aviary additionally holds unsigned Fischer's Lovebirds.

Bats: Rodrigues Fruit Bat

Temporarily closed due to COVID-19 protocols.

Black-crowned Night-heron

Signed regularly, but these are almost certainly just wild birds. Mallard and Pintail might be as well.

Kori Bustard

No longer signed and I didn't see any.

Small Aviary: Elegant Crested Tinamou, Toco Toucan
Small Aviary: Guianan Toucanet, Grey-winged Trumpeter (unsigned)

Tinamou not signed or seen. Trumpeter is now signed.

Hidden Jungle Aviary was closed because they were in transition between the temporary butterfly exhibit and the regular bird lineup :( so I did not get a list for that one part of the park you didn't have before.

These both hold unsigned White-crested Laughingthrush.

Wings of the World had signed and seen laughingthrush in 2018, they do seem to shunt stuff around a lot in that aviary though.

No longer signed and I didn't see any.

Kori Bustard has either entirely gone off display or left entirely sadly. There were males in three different exhibits when I visited.

Tinamou not signed or seen.

I think they're down to one bird now.

No more Nene or Blue-winged Goose on exhibit then? I thought I recalled hearing the park had Lappet-faced Vultures somewhere of late. Looks like Elegant Crested Tinamou is gone or bts too.

I have Nene down as "Hawaiian Goose" in the pond with Lesser, Chilean Flamingos, and other waterfowl. I did not see any Blue-winged Geese (or a sign) during my visit this past weekend so I don't think they are there any longer.

Yes, they are on habitat in African Woods with a pair of Rüppell's Vultures. I have already included them in my post above :)

Yes, I believe they are now held bts. They were on habitat with the Toco Toucans but have now been replaced with Ocellated Turkeys.

Red-cheeked gibbon? Do you mean buff-cheeked gibbon? That's what you listed in the big primate thread.

Gibbons, Geladas, and Guenons Galore! -- Primates in North America
Red-cheeked and Buff-cheeked are different names for the same species (Nomascus gabriellae). Red-cheeked gibbon is what the park calls them (according to the sign) so I have it listed here as that. A majority of the other holders of this species call them Buff-cheeked Gibbons (according to their websites) so I listed it as that in the other thread.

What happened to the Great Indian and Rhinoceros hornbills at the park? Must be over 10 years ago that I went there but shame these aren't at either zoo now. Any idea if these species are considered desirable for the collection?

I think they still hold Great Indian bts in the bird breeding complex. They may well have Rhinoceros there too.
