Hi all! I'm new to this site. I started lurking and impulsively decided to join, so here we are. I'm a nature and wildlife photographer from St. Louis, so as you could probably guess, the St. Louis Zoo is one of my favorite places to be. I pretty much go any time I get the chance. It's awesome to live in a city with such a well-respected zoo. Over the years, I've also been to a small tiger sanctuary called Crown Ridge, the Omaha Zoo, the Kansas City Zoo, the Montreal Biodome, Grant's Farm, the World Bird Sanctuary, and Cedar Cove Feline Conservatory. I'll try to post some shots I've taken at some of those zoos, although a couple were from a long time ago and don't exactly hold up, or have been lost to time. As you can probably guess from my username, my favorite animal is a clouded leopard, but I have yet to have the opportunity to see one in person. The closest I've gotten is seeing a taxidermy one at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History on my 8th grade class trip to Washington, DC. Anyways, I'll mostly be on here to share my photography, I hope you guys enjoy the photos as much as I enjoy taking them!

Welcome! Since you're local, any idea on what's been going on with Grant's Farm?

Honestly no. I haven't been since 2018. Grant's Farm is great for kids and families, but it really never crosses my mind to go there. I've had some success with photography there but I always end up prioritizing the St. Louis Zoo.

They've gotten rid of almost all of their animals and now only have some deer species and bison. It's odd.

Really? That's disappointing. Do you know if they still have free-roaming animals like the peacock? That's where I had the best luck. I found the tram really difficult to take good photos on so if all that's left I probably won't ever be back.

Welcome! The St. Louis Zoo is one of my favorite places too!

I don't know, the website barely mentions the animals at all now. I was hoping you'd know more lol.

Welcome to Zoochat. I saw your post about going to the San Diego Zoo. There may be a clouded leopard on exhibit in the cluster of cages next to the old elephant exhibit at the zoo (the area now called 'Urban Jungle").

I'll have to check, but based on my research I'm not too optimistic. I know they have them, but they aren't listed on their app and their page on the website doesn't give a location for them. From what I gather the only way to see them is through the animals in action experience, which is about $100 extra, and the animals on any given day vary, so it wouldn't even be a guarantee. I'm debating as to whether or not I think its worth it.

I've heard they occasionally use their Cloudeds in one of the free animal presentations, but again no guarantees, I've no idea what the chances might be.

Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium is one of the best (and possibly easiest?) places in the US to see Cloudies, they both have the species on exhibit and as a regularly used ambassador animal.

Welcome by the way.

I'll have to keep a lookout for any clouded leopards in the shows. I'll have to look into the Point Defiance Zoo as well.

We aren't entirely sure if that's what really going on - we need someone to visit and figure it out!

Ok I can't confirm anything because I didn't actually go but I'm looking at the images people post on google reviews and it seems like we have good news. There's pictures of macaws, Patagonian cavies, kookaburras, alpacas, ring-tailed lemurs and more in the park itself, and lots of different animals that seem to be photographed from the tram ride posted during this season. I also found a lot of pictures of animals there posted recently on Instagram. Not sure why they aren't mentioned on the site anymore, but it seems like there's still a relatively decent animal collection there.
