A Mindanao Bleeding-Heart recently hatched.
Where in the park are they kept? This is the first I have heard of this species. I know they have nesting Nicobar Pigeons with at least one hatchling.A Mindanao Bleeding-Heart recently hatched.
Presumably they're kept in the aviary on Mahajarah Jungle Trek.Where in the park are they kept? This is the first I have heard of this species. I know they have nesting Nicobar Pigeons with at least one hatchling.
I will have to make a note to ask Cast Members about them next time. I know the aviary recently got Galahs which I've also yet to see.Presumably they're kept in the aviary on Mahajarah Jungle Trek.
That is correct.Presumably they're kept in the aviary on Mahajarah Jungle Trek.
Then you'd hate Hannover: Europe's 100 must see exhibitsGalahs, an Australian, mostly semi-arid cockatoo species, in a humid South(east) Asian themed aviary??!! That's not what I call a perfect zoogeographical solution...
Well Hannover at least gives a reason for having African penguins in a North American area to keep the geographic theme correct. Animal Kingdoms aviary additions are just a lazy inclusion of Asian looking species. Then you'd hate Hannover: Europe's 100 must see exhibits
With the goats/sheep, I roughly have a list on who is still alive/dead.Some changes from my visit before.
-The ring-tailed lemurs have passed away recently, they were both in their late 20s-early 30s and had age-related health issues. They died within days of each other as one was also very sad alone.
-In the Affection Section, we are down to 3 goats and 5 sheep from the original herd. Two of the newer Nigerian dwarf goats were in with the old herd. The goats are 15 years old which is really old, and 4 out of the 5 sheep are 11 and one is 14.
-Many animals not out today in the heat, such as the lions, cheetahs, Eld’s deer, blackbuck and greater kudu.
I even dislike some zoogeographial themeing in my hometown Zoo, Zoo Zurich (although quality wise it is one of the best worldwide). E.g. the meerkats at the Lewa exhibit...Then you'd hate Hannover: Europe's 100 must see exhibits
I calculated and total number left is 8/48 which is 16.66 percent(since last year someone told me 37 already died, plus three this year.)Very few left and in the next one or two years I expect them all to die out and the new Nigerian dwarf goats all in the contact yard. With the goats/sheep, I roughly have a list on who is still alive/dead.

I think the article is meaning to say that the baby was born in June at Memphis not the female transferred was born in June.On July 28th, it was announced that a (0.1) African barbet was born in June and transferred to the Memphis Zoo in Tennessee.
What's New at the Zoo... Baby Edition!
I think the article is meaning to say that the baby was born in June at Memphis not the female transferred was born in June.
That is clearly a typo for some other year. The article also says "The baby barbets [at Memphis] fledged July 2-3." Fledging age is about one month, which means they hatched around the start of June. The female couldn't have been hatched at Disney during the same month she laid the eggs at Memphis.I'm quoting from the article itself, "The female hatched at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in June of 2022." This is referring to the female who bred with the male.
