Milwaukee County Zoo Milwaukee County Zoo News 2022

I visited the zoo today and it was a pretty nice visit. Kind of unfortunate timing for a few exhibits as they were doing landscaping, trimming etc. but was nice. Some updates of the day:

-Mandrill enclosure is dark with off exhibit signs.
-Cotton top tamarin exhibit across from Colobus monkey was also empty and they are moving in with the Goeldis
-Aquatic and Reptile Center was full of activity and was packed. Plenty of animals moving and swimming around their exhibits
-Peacocks seem to be roaming around again
-Flamingos we’re visible in the background near their indoor area near the animal hospital
-Otter pups were really fun to watch today as they had a wrestling match throughout the main pool
-A few of the grizzlies were swimming in their pool
-Ringo the harbor seal was a show as well today as he kept popping up and snorting. Cossette and the pup were slightly visible indoor through the doorway
-Ostrich, Rhea, Pelicans, Vultures all were outside today
-No African cranes in either exhibit, stork or Guinea fowl were out
-The baby giraffe was adorable and both Marlee and Ziggy were being fed at the time I was there.
-I believe it is Ziggy that is still pregnant and her stomach was noticeably bigger and was moving around a bit
-I saw the Yaks for the first time and is a nice addition to the area of the zoo. Makes it feel like there isn’t a huge hole of emptiness
-Only a zebra in the waterhole exhibit today. I think it has to do with how the kudu and waterbuck interact with the zebra
-Hyenas, Cheetahs Lions and Tigers were very active with the cats roaming around near the glass and the lions had a ten minute stare down with the tiger inside. Kind of interesting to stand right in the middle of it
-Happy was actually speed walking through the pool which was interesting
-Boo and Ghost the swans are in the pachyderm mall across from the indoor hippo barn.
-There is black fencing around the old elephant enclosure which makes me think there will be a hoof stock species of some sort in the near future.

Out of curiosity, how does a hippo speed walk through a pool? What does that look like?
It was in the shallow end of the pool so not completely in the water and was just walking quickly to and from the end of the pool. Basically in between the speeds of walking underneath the water and running on land. Not completely sure how to explain it great

Hippos can't actually swim. What you described is how they move underwater as I understand it.

Outdoor birds seem to be returning, is the aviary still closed?
