Maned wolf and Bison calf arrive:

Lee Richardson Zoo adds bison calf, maned wolf to its animal world

Lee Richardson Zoo has recently welcomed a seven-year-old male maned wolf and a six-month-old male bison calf to the zoo.

“Mateo” has joined resident female maned wolf “Lelah” in the South American Pampas portion of the zoo. Mateo came to the zoo from the National Zoological Park (Smithsonian Institution).

Working with the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism, zoo staff welcomed the new bison calf to the North American Plains area of the zoo. The calf previously resided at the Sandsage Bison Range, south of Garden City.

On June 3rd, the zoo announced they have introduced their (0.2) jaguars together and both can be seen on exhibit publicly.

On June 23rd, the zoo announced that a (0.1) Goledi's monkey named Rita was diagnosed with leukemia, which resulted in the canceling of a transfer to another AZA facility.

Also on June 23rd, the zoo announced that their (1.0) American bison named Titus was diagnosed with oral cancer.

On July 23rd, the zoo announced the red ruffed lemur that was born on June 2nd's gender (1.0) and name, Mafy. On September 16th, the zoo announced that he has made his public debut.

On November 23rd, the zoo announced that a (1.0) Sichuan takin named Louie passed away on November 17th due to declining health.

On November 24th, the zoo announced that the (1.0) American bison that was recently acquired has made its public debut.

2022 News:

On March 13th, the zoo announced that due to avian influenza they have closed their outdoor walk-through aviary to the public. They have also moved some of their birds off exhibit. On June 17th, the zoo announced that since cases have been minimized, they have returned the birds to their exhibits and the aviary is now open to the public (presumably).

On April 4th, the zoo announced that the (1.0) American bison was named Aster.

On May 18th, the zoo announced that a (0.1) red panda named Ember passed away on May 13th due to a twisted stomach. She was 12 years old.

On June 2nd, the zoo announced that they have acquired a (0.1) trumpeter swan from the Topeka Zoo in Kansas and is on the pond exhibit with their male.

On July 8th, the zoo announced that a (0.1) North American river otter named Ariel has passed away on July 6th at age 19.

Also on July 8th, the zoo announced that (1.1) red-ruffed lemurs were born on June 28th and are now on exhibit in the Lemur Forest area.

Lee Richardson Zoo celebrates birth of a baby reticulated giraffe the day after Christmas

The calf is a male:

The Lee Richardson Zoo welcomes a baby reticulated giraffe born on Monday at 11:15 a.m.

Zoo keepers had been monitoring 9-year-old Cleo during her pregnancy and noticed Monday morning that she showed early signs of giving birth.

She gave birth to a healthy boy weighing 185 pounds and was nursing within hours of birth.

The Lee Richardson Zoo welcomes a baby reticulated giraffe born on Monday at 11:15 a.m.

On January 12th, 2023, the zoo announced his name, Miguu.

On January 17th, the zoo announced that a (1.0) banteng named Studebaker passed away on January 9th at age 11. The zoo also announced that they moved their Karakul sheep into the now-former banteng exhibit while renovations are happening in the sheep's exhibit in Wild Asia.
