This seems to come up a few times in giraffes (and other ungulates). A calf at Auckland Zoo suffered from the same issue and was subsequently named Forrest. The corrective procedure was a success and in addition to siring many calves, he now holds the record for being the world's giraffe at 5.7 metres.

Two Snowy owlets have hatched (a first for the zoo):

The owls hatched on June 29 and July 4. Snowy owl hatches are rare in zoos and are the first ones hatched at the Seneca Park Zoo.

The mother snowy owl, Winter, was hatched in 2011 and brought to the zoo in 2012 from the Bramble Park Zoo in South Dakota. The father, Tundra, was hatched in July 2013 and brought to the zoo from National Aviary in Pennsylvania.

Some construction has begun on the next phase of Seneca Park Zoo’s expansion. It’s not very glamorous, but an access road to connect the whole zoo will be finished in the spring. As part of the construction, the utilities for the Tropics will be installed. I asked a keeper if things were still on track and he said yes. He believes that it’s still the list of animals previously listed. And he thought it was still a long way from opening. They have renovated the North American otter area by the new cafe. It looks really good. The Eco center looks barren and they seem to be preparing to build something inside? Maybe redo the animal habitats?

On December 5th, the zoo announced that they will be closed from December 12th to December 16th in order to work on new plaza areas in the Trailside Cafe area, upgrades to the North American river otter outdoor viewing area, as well as the conversion of the ECO Center to the Creatures from the River's Edge, complete with new signage, improved exhibits, and a new contemporary look and feel.

Yeah they need it. Great but the Eco center really needs to redo the animal habitats.
