Dutch zoo guides

Then I'll kidnap KevinB for Antwerp and Pairi Daiza

Which parts of Antwerp and Pairi Daiza do you want species lists for?

For Antwerp I have or could make some lists for many of the bird areas, but not quite so much for the reptiles, let alone the aquarium.

For Pairi Daiza I don't have quite as much lists or recent signage photos, but given that I visited recently I might be able to help out with some of the aviaries.

No need, I've got you covered as regards to wildlands and overloon (fish excluded). I do have a list for Hoenderdaell, though it might be a bit outdated

Thanks! I'm asking Joost for Wildlands, since he basically lives there. But help for Overloon would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not very familiar with either of the zoos.
For Antwerp I know of: the Marsupial building, the Small monkeys house, and the different multi-species exhibits inside the bird building.

For Pairi I know of: Oasis, Flamingo aviary, Bird-Of-Paradise greenhouse, Southern Cape aviary, Monkey island, Village-on-Stilts and the middle kingdom bridge. But there's bound to be more areas that could use a guide. I'm really only working with the zoo's map here.

Help would be greatly appreciated! (Preferably through private messages though, to avoid the main forum getting too clogged up)

Sadly, because of the nature of Apenheul's map, I wasn't able to make the mini-map in the corners. So enjoy me trying to describe it.

The squirrel monkey forest is immediately after the entrance to the left.

The Calichitieisbjasbdi forest and Madagascar area are right after that and next to the "Apengaap" restaurant

The Atlas mountain area is found after the Orangutans and Javan latungs, opposite the Lion-tailed macaques

The gorilla shore is found after the Atlas mountains, opposite the gorilla island, the Treetop path is found after that.

Side note: The red-legged seriemas are technically confined to a separate enclosure, but they are known to basically always escape. Also: I personally only saw Russian sturgeons and I honestly doubt there's other species in there

Do you have a reason for not putting the white-belted black-and-white ruffed lemur (V. v. subcincta) on here? Normally they are here as well.

Perhaps something to add: you will not see the talapoins and the other monkeys here at the same time. They alternate. Next year, a new walk-through area will be opened for the talapoins.

The 'apen speurkaart' is much better than the regular Apenheul map. Unfortunately it is not available digitally. You can only get it in the zoo, just after the entrance. This is it: Speurkaart

Apenheul itself states that the seriemas can and are allowed walk freely through the park. But the enclosure under the treetop path is their 'home', that is why their sign is there.

In their latest overview of the number of animals they keep, from 2021, the three species of sturgeon should be there. Namely 2 Russian sturgeons, 6 Siberian sturgeons and 2 white sturgeons.

I had them on my 'first version' that I actually took to Apenheul, but I didn't see any belted lemurs so I asked a keepers. According to her, the red ruffed lemurs were too territorial toward the white-belted ruffed lemurs. The single black-and-white ruffed lemur (Varecia variegata variegata) was able to assimilate into the group because they were released together with the red ruffed lemurs, but the two White-belted lemurs weren't able to because they were added later. They are behind the scenes and they're still figuring out what to do with them

Strange, I asked a keeper whether they're free-roaming or not, and he said that they're confined to their enclosure. After I told him that two had escaped, he called another keeper to catch them and put them back in their enclosure, so who knows what their true status is

The fact that they don't have this as their normal map makes this even worse

Too bad. The last I heard about it was that after a two-year introduction, they had finally managed to keep them all together. I wonder what they will do with them.

As MennoPebesma has used my Zoo guides in Amersfoort and wasn't able to find some species, I'd like to say that if anyone wants the best Zoo guide experience, you can send me a private chat and I'll send you the original file. This way you'll have the most up-to-date guides (some are updated together with the news forums). The Burgers' zoo guides, for example, have been completely redesigned and updated with the new Desert enclosures, but it's not really enough to give it a full update, since it's really only 2 new species.

Personally, I like to print them out and take them with me as a physical folder. But I'm able to abuse my school printer privileges to print them in colour so I fully understand that people might not be able to print (I can also send full-quality pictures of the fully updated guides).

I prefer not to constantly upload the updates since the thread would get too piled up.

Question: How many of you have actually used the zoo guides? I know that 1SquirrelMonkey at least used them for Burgers' zoo, I sent them to him myself. And someone asked for the updated guides of Blijdorp, so I guess they've been used. But I don't exactly get updated if anyone downloads the guides off ZC, so I'm curious!

I'll be visiting Avifauna next week to try and make guides there, and I've also got someone with a species list for Antwerp so those will be coming soon too. Stay tuned!

I actually used the burgers zoo one during my visit. Was really helpful in finding some animals!

Speaking of, if anyone does take the guides with them, please keep watch for any needed updates and send me a private message! This way I can keep them updated behind the scenes
