Noah's Ark Zoo Farm Noah's Ark Zoo Farm 2022

Great enrichment! I wonder how long it will last before the elephants wreck it?
Ar least the willow will stop any headaches they get!

So ooc, how heavy was the Christian messaging at the zoo? I've seen pictures here before where they try to refute evolution in a way that seems odd for a British place.

To be fair I didn't notice much of the religious stuff when I was there a few months ago!

I think they’re shying away from it now but another reason for people not going is the quality of animal care and the amount of scandals they’ve had

Kito is the only current giraffe at Noah's ark

Anyone know when Gilbert died? Can't find any information(albeit NAZF may have kept this quiet due to Gennie's previous 3 calves having all died)

It was mentioned on the African Elephants In Europe thread that Janu was aggressive. Apparently Janu was responsible for the passing of his younger Half-Brother Juva. It transpires that Janu also sealed M’Changa’s fate. I originally thought the troublesome Elephant was Shaka. I know he’s moved a lot due to his behaviour. While at Vienna Zoo he was separated from the Cowes as he was less than pleasant. Can someone please detail the relationship between the Elephants and their personalities. Could you please include M’Changa in the information. I would be intrigued to know if M’Changa was a dominating individual, who could have competed against Shaka and Janu. I’ve always wanted to but have never been to Noah’s Ark. as a result I don’t know the Heard dynamics.

Hi there,

Where did you hear that Shaka was troublesome. As far as I know he’s a chilled individual.

Shaka is obviously a lot older than the other 2 were at the time and therefore probably didn’t see them as competition whereas Janu and M’Changa were similar age sparring teenagers.

Either way it was a sad loss and as far as I know completely unpredicted as all 3 had lived happily for several years.

@markymark Im sure that I read online that Shaka has moved around due to aggression. I know, while at Vienna Zoo Shaka was kept separate from the Cowes. Hence Shaka’s move to a bachelor heard. Apparently this was due to Shaka’s behaviour. From what I’ve seen and read online since residing at Noah’s Ark Shaka’s personally has changed slightly. Noah’s Ark stated themselves that Shaka’s most content he’s been. Note Noah’s Ark didn’t use these words but words to the same effect.Despite this I think he’s still mildly aggressive and an unpredictable Bull. This coupled with his history of aggression lead me to believe Shaka was M’Changa’s killer.

I would never have never contemplated that M’Changa’s death was caused by Janu. To be honest I’m shocked. I always believed that Janu was the more docile out of the pair. I have been following Janu for a few years. This is first I’ve heard about Janu being accountable for the death of his younger Half-Brother Juva and M’Changa. What shocks me further is that Janu and M’Changa were compatible for years and too some seemed like Brothers. The only explanation for Janu’s sudden outburst is that maybe he was in musth. Personally I hope Noah’s Ark aren’t deterred by the incident and continue to add further Elephants. There are many Bulls who I think should move to Elephant Eden. In England alone there are a few Sutton at West Midlands Safari Park IImpy at Howeletts and Machuba at Howeletts. This is excluding all of the Young Bulls throughout Europe who are perfect candidates

As none of us are elephant keepers at Noah's Ark then shall we stop speculation on how M'changa met his ending?
At the end of the day there was an incident overnight and sadly one elephant died. We will possibly never discover the full reason as to the incident or why it happened. There is potentially a lot of people who follow this site who aren't members(as I once was) who could visit this place and start the " well The Hedgehog said this or Embu said that" these places have a reputation to uphold and I just feel speculation on a incident that we have no facts on, could be damaging. Please stop ✋

@Embu I would like to think that people wouldn’t disclose this chat to Noah’s Ark staff. Sadly people like to gossip. Hopefully our Zoochat names would mean nothing to the conversation. I say this as in real life I’m not called The Hedgehog and I’m sure Embu isn’t your name. Irrespective of this you have raised a valid point. Unfortunately due to my learning disabilities I don’t think as clearly as you.
I’ll cease the conversation about how M’Changa passed away. If I ever wish to discuss something of this nature in will send a private message to whoever I would like to have a conversation with.

The odds are extremely high that - as with most zoological collections - Noah's Ark is entirely aware of what is posted, claimed and speculated here. As such I would suggest that the discussion ends here, as @Embu suggested. On a related note, placing blind faith in your online pseudonym and holding an assumption that it allows you to speculate free of consequence is rather rash - it is easy to forget how many little snippets of personally-identifying information one might let slip!

Does anyone know if the new plantation in the elephant enclosure is easily viewable from the path? Can visitors see the elephants in the plantation? I tried looking on Google maps but I couldn’t tell which part would be the new section

Yes and no.

they are visible in the sense that they are large African elephants and you can see the plantation area from the main path running through the zoo as it is up an incline from the path.

they views are distant however.. across the full width of the main enclosure.

the closet you might get to the enclosure would be from the corner as the path goes round the lion pen.

The photos you see on the zoos social media could only be captured by staff I should imagine.

As a fairly regular visitor (4 times since plantation was publicised) I have never seen the pair in the woodland either.

hope that’s helpful even if not the answer you hoped for. :)

thank you! That’s very helpful and exactly what I was wondering. I have a friend that is thinking of travelling a few hours to Noah’s ark and they really want to see the elephants in the plantation.

They asked me the chances of seeing them in there however, I haven’t been since the plantation was publicised so I thought I would ask on here :D
