I get females need spaces and are easier to keep but a female herd of any (non Bongo) tragelaphid is a little boring.

With Montgomery actively working towards AZA accreditation and with the greater kudu program being one of the only hoofstock programs that is over capacity, it makes sense for them to hold a single sex group. Breeding of this species within the AZA is being tightly managed to not have too many animals and not enough homes within the AZA while still maintaining the reproductive health of the females.

I also think to place the inherent value of a species solely on the presence of impressive horns is a little near-sighted and is looking at things from such a limited window and perspective. Of course, the horns of an adult male greater kudu in his prime are undeniably impressive, but there is just as much beauty and value in the grace and elegance of the females; there is just as much value in exhibiting them with or without the males. This sort of thinking is part of the reason why there are so few hoofstock species left in the AZA.

On August 1st, the zoo announced that they have acquired a (1.0) giant anteater named Barques which is on exhibit with their other giant anteater and maned wolves.

One of the zoo's four cheetahs, Santiago, died in November after ingesting part of an insulated lunch box dropped into the enclosure from the skyfari. The vet was immediately notified, but he'd already gotten to it and died a few days later from the blockage.

Skyfari rides can be a great way to provide something different to visitors, but the attendants are responsible for so much animal safety. Items shouldn't be allowed on them.

As someone that visited this zoo lately, I was impressed by the lay out and species collection.

There is absolutely nothing stating that the zoo is being investigated and of course the public is responsible.

I tried to look back on pictures i took of the exhibit but don't have any from the public side. I'm trying to remember if it was glass fronted or open air, as most the exhibits are at this gem of a zoo

It was dropped in from above, from the skyfari. It's a fairly easy fix, don't let people bring things on the ride and enforce that.
