From a visit to London Zoo today:
53. Potto, Perodictus potto
Think that's more or less the last I'll be getting for a while unless I get out of the country...

55. Palestina spiny mouse, Acomys dimidiatus
56. Sub-saharan pygmy mouse, Mus minutoides
57. Striped skunk, Mephitis mephitis
58. Zorilla, Ictonyx striatus.

Two new zoos for me, I particularly enjoyed British Wildlife Centre as it was much bigger and nicer than I expected. Missed a lot of ticks at both though.

I almost certainly saw crested horn sharks as well, but can’t tell them and Port Jacksons apart so am not claiming it. There are three wobbegong species in the same tank, but I’m reasonably confident the one I saw was an ornate wobbegong, and since I only saw one feel justified in claiming it.
Taronga Zoo - 7/7/2022
70. Long-beaked echidna - Zaglossus bartoni
71. Golden-tailed gecko - Strophurus taenicauda
72. Giant cave gecko - Pseudothecadactylus cavaticus

Number 70 is rather meaningful - in nearly 25 years of visiting Taronga on most visits to Sydney, this is the first time I’ve ever seen it. Given JR’s age, there’s a fair chance it’ll be the only time too. We spent some quality time - JR ignoring me entirely while I watched him eat afternoon tea in his burrow.
This is the last update from my current trip to North Qld and Sydney. It was to have been to Southeast Qld as well, but plans to visit Currumbin, David Fleay Wildlife Park and Wildlife HQ were scuppered by my partner catching COVID. Thankfully she recovered quickly and we were still able to enjoy a chunk of our planned holiday.![]()

I’m doing a great job of picking zoos that are terrible for this year’s ZC challenges. I’ll probably get to Chester this month though, so that will hopefully boost me to about 100.

Marwell Zoo 01/07/22
Great day at Marwell with lots of new species for me and many animals out and about. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a particularly successful trip for this challenge as Marwell doesn’t have very many eligible species and some of the ones that do count I have either a) already counted for this challenge - parma and red-necked wallabies, tiger, Linnaeus’ sloth, binturong - b) were no shows - clouded leopards, potoroos - or c) both - serval. Perhaps my biggest disappointment was that the Javan chevrotain has been removed from the tropical house due to bird flu and not yet reintroduced
so:
42. Snow Leopard (panthera uncia)
Gotta admit, despite lots of species being active and about, there were a lot of no shows too (particularly in the ‘life among the trees’ section - scimitar-horned oryx, lowland anoa, clouded leopards, servals, potoroos, swift parrots, sakis, golden lion tamarins, golden headed lion tamarins, titis, pygmy marmosets, red-handed tamarins, Bokiboky.
