Marwell Wildlife Marwell 2022 News

From facebook:

“We are deeply saddened to announce the death of one of our giraffes.

Our keepers and vet team are working together to establish more details after Irsula collapsed suddenly earlier today.

Thank you to all our guests for your support and understanding at this time. We will keep you updated with more information.”

Real shame. Was literally there the other week and had like a ten minute chat with one of their staff about the giraffes while watching them. They must all be so sad.

Just to comment on couple things the ants are still there, two male crowned Lemurs in walk through with Ring Tailed Black and White Ruffed have now left and would not be surprised to see another species Lemur in there soon, I think at some time Lemur walk through will be open but perhaps not this year, there are no plans to bring back the Leopard walk way.

do you know where the crowned lemurs went by chance?

I believe that they have returned to their original home in what was World of Lemurs... at least that is where they were when I visited

The Black White Ruffed Lemurs all male in walk through have left Marwell dont know where, there is still pair Black White Ruffed in what was World of Lemurs, there are also Red Ruffed males there.

Is the walk through open yet? I used to love Marwell but never get the appeal to go now as everything seems to be shut ect. All I see when I go is Zebras.

As far as the walk-through goes, you can't walk with the lemurs currently - but you can still view the lemurs from the Giraffe house [if they are in there] and also from a path that overlooks the enclosure

That lemur walk through seems such a waste of money. The last time I went through it was 2016, I dont think its been opened since.

The enclosure was never going to be any good for a walk through, it was much better suited for the Diana monkey and colobus that were in there previously.

I loved it as a walk through. The lemurs should have stayed where they were orginally though.

I am not a fan of the lemur walkthrough. It is too small to work as a walkthrough enclosure.. I presume it was the fashionable thing a few years ago and Marwell decided they had to have one. They had perfectly decent enclosures for lemurs in what used to be World of Lemurs anyway.

I guess it was good for things like the white-faced sakis that moved into the enclosures the lemurs vacated. They got quite an upgrade.

I just noticed that on the Marwell website they have an updated map dated July 2022.

The interesting thing I saw on it is that near the banteng it says they have common eland. I don't recall seeing anything mentioned here. Have they got them now? I presume they wouldn't make the same mistake as last year.

I think they will have Eland at some time this year do not think they have arrived yet.

I hope this is allowed, did anything come of the break in to marwell? It all went quite and I don't know if anyone was convicted of it.

Still being investigated last I heard, in the Daily Echo, some time back.
Personally was all in favour of letting them into the tiger enclosure, specifically when the tigers had access to it also.....

Considering it was pretty cut and dry with the CCTV and phone videos ect, it seems to be taking a long time.

Won't say anything more as I got slated for my opinion on the abusers at the time, so let's gloss over it...
Pleased that the restoration of Eland to the hoofstock collection seems to be back on after Covid.
Personally I'd like to see Nilgai and Blackbuck come back too. Not sure anyone in the UK even has Nilgai anymore? Not seen any in years.
Hoping to get a visit in the next 2 weeks depending on weather and my health holding up. Not done any photography for a while either.
