Planet Zoo Animals That Planet Zoo Needs!

Eh, while I’m not terribly happy with the spectacaiman, I’m not outraged over it, either. It hasn’t ruined crocodilians for me, but I can see why it has for other people.
Even if it’s another caiman, Frontier always manages to make their crocodilians look good (save for a few issues with the saltie, but those are negligible), so it’s at least better than the HBB. I still would’ve preferred the Cuban Crocodile, but the spectacaiman can stay.
All in all, good list. What other animals do you have alternatives in mind for? Arctic Wolf? One of the many Antelopes? Whatever you choose, please leave my boys Wild Water Buffalo and Proboscis Monkey out of this.
I agree that the spec isn't literally a BAD animal at all, and each has their own opinion. I'll keep the rest of the list secret for now... But your bois are safe from my scorn, don't worry XDDD

Top 5 snakes that would have been a better choice than the death adder
It's no secret that the idea of having two, more or less obscure, Australian venomous snake in the main game, is slightly jarring, as is the fact that no other snakes have been added to the game since, leaving us with only 6. These are mostly fine, but, while the Eastern Brown snake has the distinction of being the second most venomous snake in Australia AND the one that causes the most human fatalities there, I just can't understand why the death adder needs to be there. So here are 5 snakes that could have easily taken its place:

5. Green tree python (Morelia viridis): People have been clamoring for the inclusion of a python in the game, and one of the most unique and aesthetically beautiful is the green tree python, as it would also be the smallest of the constrictors. It shares its australian heritage, so it would be a decent addition for that side of the world. However, I feel that other snakes could potentially be a lot better, and for that, we need to jump to other continents.

4. Mexican milksnake (Lampropeltis annulata): the aesthetics alone make this beautiful snake and its relatives well worth considering for Planet Zoo, and it would be the only colubrid in the game. Common as colubrids are, I find it interesting that they're so lacking in the current roster, and I feel they need representation. However, as it's a common pet species and it's yet another representative of North American deserts, I don't think it should be the top priority.

3. Sunda Island pit viper (Trimeresurus insularis): Everyone has said it and so have I; the number of Asian exhibit animals is woefully low, and thus all snakes from this point on are from said continent. The first is the Sunda Island pit viper, a venomous snake famous for its bright green, and occasionally pale blue, colour. It would be the only reptile from Asia, and the only venomous snake to be housed in a rainforest terrarium. It's not endangered at all, but it's still a beautiful species well worth considering.

2. Burmese python (Python bivittatus): As I said, pythons are much sought after. The Burmese python, vulnerable in its native range, an invasive species in the USA and extremely common in zoos, would be my absolute first choice for the Planet Zoo python, even above the equally impressive African rock and reticulated pythons. It would be another large constrictor, granted, but I believe the distinct lineage, geographic area and conservation situation would totally justify its inclusion. But it still can't surpass…

1. King cobra (Ophiophagus hannah): let's face it, any cobra could easily be up there; the Indian, the Arabian, the red spitting… But in the end, none can surpass the king. It fills all the necessary gaps; it's Asian, it's a venomous snake in a humid environment, it's vulnerable to extinction and, most importantly, it's one of the most requested exhibit animals the Planet Zoo crowd wishes for. Hell, one of the developers is called "Cobra"!! Come on, make it happen!

These are the Ungulates that I would add to Planet Zoo

Equids
  • Grevy’s Zebra (Equus grevyi)
  • Somali Wild Ass (Equus africanus somaliensis)
Rhinos
  • Eastern Black Rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis michaeli)

Honorable mentions to the Gaboon Viper & Black Mamba. Those two would be good additions, I think.
Also, I’d replace the Yellow Anaconda with the Green Anaconda because I like the greenaconda more and I’m petty :p.

Those are Very good honorable mentions. The mangrove snake (Boiga dendrophila) almost made it in too, instead of the white-lipped island tree viper. I feel we're fine with the yellow anaconda myself, but each to their own! ;)

I prefer Green myself, likely partly stemming from the fact Yellow is not very common over here, unlike in Europe. Regional difference at work there.

Here's a fun game idea:

What are 10 animals from your home zoo you would like to see in Planet Zoo?

My local zoo is Chester, and I'm keeping it to mammals because my need for birds is too strong it would overwhelm the list. :p

My Top 10 (in no particular order):
  1. Rock Hyrax
  2. Colombian Black Spider Monkey
  3. Luzon Giant Cloud Rat
  4. Belanger's Treeshrew
  5. Aye-Aye

  7. Philippine Mouse Deer
  8. Coquerel's Sifaka
  9. A Small Tamarin (Emperor, Cotton-Top, Golden-Headed Lion, Pied...)

An interesting idea indeed, and even with a small place it wasn't that hard.

Sacramento, in no particular order:
  1. Grevy's Zebra
  2. Abyssinian Ground Hornbill
  3. Emu
  4. Himalayan Monal
  5. American Flamingo
  6. Gray Fox
  7. Southern Two-toed Sloth
  8. Green Tree Python
  9. Tokay Gecko
  10. Madagascar Giant Hognose Snake

Sure, I'll give it a go! I will stick to the rule of no flying birds. My home zoo is Barcelona, so;

10- Red-necked wallaby (Macropus rufogriseus)

9- Rhinoceros iguana (Cyclura cornuta); I'd rather it be a habitat animal instead of an exhibit one.

8- Patagonian mara (Dolichotis patagonum)

7- Indian rock python (Python molurus); exhibit animal

6- Nile softshell turtle (Trionyx triunguis); both it and the next one would be habitat animals

5- Alligator snapping turtle (Macrochelys temminckii)

4- Black-necked swan (Cygnus melancoryphus); doesn't need to fly

3- African crested porcupine (Hystrix cristata)

2- Lyle's flying fox (Pteropus lylei); yeah, it can fly but hey! It's not a flying bird! :p

1- Dalmatian pelican (Pelecanus crispus); doesn't need to fly

Here is my list for Cincinnati! I also chose just to do mammals.

1. Eastern Black Rhinoceros
2. Florida Manatee
3. Coquerel’s Sifaka
4. Black Howler Monkey
5. Red-Necked Wallaby
6. Brazilian Porcupine
7. Serval
8. Pallas’ Cat
9. Southern Tamandua
I know they no longer have them at the Cincinnati Zoo but I would love to have Sumatran Rhinoceros in planet zoo so that is my tenth option if that counts.

Oooh, this looks fun! I'm going to use Phoenix as my home zoo because Henry Vilas is one of the most easily-replicable US zoos in Planet Zoo (flying birds not withstanding). Seriously, the last 5 DLCs have all added at least 1 animal that Henry Vilas has/has an acceptable substitute (White Rhino, African Penguin, Meerkat; American Alligator; Badger; Capybara, a smaller Otter, Crane; Gibbon).
In no particular order...
  1. Meep-meep! Greater Roadrunner! Planet Zoo needs more North American animals, more explicitly Desert animals, and more birds (that should go without saying). Why not kill three birds with one stone and include one of my favorite bird species? I also think the Roadrunner would be a good "gap filler" animal.
  2. Speaking of birds, Phoenix has quite the variety of pelicans: American White, Brown, Pink-Backed, & Dalmatian. Any of these would be good additions to Planet Zoo, IMO, but I'll go with the Pink-Backed Pelican because it's African and could possibly get an interspecies enrichment bonus with the Greater Flamingo or African Penguin.
  3. Enough birds, let's mammal it up! Planet Zoo's primate roster is pretty solid overall, but there's a significant lack of non-tropical species. Enter the Hamadryas Baboon, a Grasslands/Desert species with striking gender differences and a sizeable captive population. How Planet Zoo has gone on for this long without baboons is a mystery to me.
  4. Planet Zoo has no shortage of bears, but it needs more of 'em! (just no more Brown Bears, please) The only bear Phoenix Zoo has is the Andean Bear, which would give the game another large South American mammal, which the game does have a shortage of. Also, Zoo Tycoon 2: Endangered Species throwback!
  5. Keeping the South American mammal train up and rolling, how about the Maned Wolf? I know some Planet Zoo players view canids in the same way Smash players view Fire Emblem lords, but I don't think the Maned Wolf being added would result in a massive uptick in dislikes. On top of the Maned Wolf's unique appearance, I could see it getting an interspecies enrichment bonus with the Giant Anteater, which Phoenix used to do until recently.
  6. One more South American mammal! White-Nosed Coatimundi! Ok, it's not really a South American mammal, but it's got the spirit, and that's what really counts, right? Anyways, this would be PZ's first procyonid and a worthy addition to any player's Central American zoo!
  7. Speaking of Central American mammals found on the Arizona Trail, Javelina! I always found it weird that the pig and tapir rig folder is titled "Peccaries" when there aren't any actual peccaries. As a semi-native of the Sonoran Desert, I would love to have these hooved raccoons in the game.
  8. Exhibit Animal break! As @JigerofLemuria said before, we need more snakes in Planet Zoo, specifically cobras and pythons. Phoenix has a Reticulated Python on the Children's Trail in an exhibit that once held a Koala. I know most people think of snakes as exhibit animals only, but considering that Retics are the longest snakes in the whole world, maybe Frontier could go experimental and make the Reticulated Python our first habitat snake? Maybe...
  9. You thought I was done with South American mammals? Think again! Patagonian Cavy! I just think they're cute. Moving on.
  10. And to close things off, let's go with something simple: the Emu. We need more Australian habitat rep, we need more birds, the Red Kangaroo needs a neighbor that it can actually live with.

Top 5 primates that would have been a better choice than the bonobo
Don't take me wrong; bonobos are very fascinating apes, and any media attention they're given is welcome. However, I feel that they're far too similar to the common chimpanzee to be their own Planet Zoo animal, and as usual I started thinking about what other primates could take their place.

5- Celebes crested macaque (Macaca nigra):
This zoo staple would be the game's second macaque species, and yet it would stand out against the Japanese species; with its tropical habitat, critically endangered conservation state and stark black coloration, it would be a very interesting addition to any collection.

4- Mantled guereza (Colobus guereza):
Let's face it, Planet Zoo still lacks a small/medium-sized monkey from Africa, and even after considering others, like the diana monkey, patas monkey and putty-nosed monkey, in the end I feel that the mantled guereza is the most iconic of the lot; its beautiful black and white coloration would be stunning to behold, and its rather laid-back personality would make it perfect to combine with gorillas and bongos.

3- Geoffroy's spider monkey (Ateles geoffroyi):
Of all the new world monkeys I could pick from, I ended up going for what I feel is one of the most visually appealing; the golden-furred Geoffroy's spider monkey. This primate is also endangered, which improves its credentials to make it into the list. There are few things I'd like more than building a spider monkey and capuchin island in my park. The critically endangered Colombian brown spider monkey, with startling blue eyes in some specimens, almost took this spot.

2- Golden lion tamarin (Leontopithecus rosalia):
There are many, many Callitrichid monkeys I considered for this list; the cotton-top and emperor tamarins, the common and pygmy marmoset… but in the end, I chose a species which was saved by ex-situ conservation; the beautiful golden lion tamarin. Many have shown concern over the size of these primates, but I feel that if they can pull off meerkats and prairie dogs, they could pull off tamarins without issue.

1-... It's a tie!! Gelada (Theropithecus gelada) and Hamadryas baboon (Papio hamadryas): Everyone wants baboons, and so do I; they would be perfect in any African savannah or desert zone, and, along with the very considerable olive baboon, I can't decide between the hamadryas baboon and the gelada; either one of them would perfectly scratch my itch, though each one has its own perks. The hamadryas would add to the desert animal roster and are a bonified classic zoo animal, while the gelada would be one of the rare alpine animals, and maybe its all-grass diet would lead to interesting differences in habitat building. Either way, both thrive in open environments, both are aesthetically distinct and spectacular, both can be kept in absolutely massive groups, and either one of them, I believe, is essential for making Planet Zoo whole.

While I would like all of these primates to join Planet Zoo someday, I don’t think any of them are “better choices” than the Bonobo.
However, if any of these primates (preferably the baboons) were in base Planet Zoo and the Bonobo was a Deluxe animal, I’d be fine with that.

I 100% agree with you on that; bonobos are cool, and I've had them in many of my parks. I guess I just yearn for more primare variety.
